Hi--my D is very interested in Kenyon College. My biggest hurdle (after cost) is travel. For those of you from the Chicago area, how does your student travel to/from school? Do they fly out of Columbus for every break? Is there a non-sketchy bus option? Do people drive (she will not have a car)? Train? This is a stressor for me! Otherwise, Kenyon seems perfect. Thanks!

I am not from the Chicago area but from the west coast. My daughter attends Kenyon and she flies out of Columbus on Southwest which connects in Chicago/Midway. The school is served by 2 charter bus companies which make trips to the airport at the beginning and end of each vacation. The bus is just for the Kenyon students. It is safe and reasonably priced. (About $25 if I remember right.). It has worked well for us.

Not chicago either but a flight distance away. Southwest goes to chicago, and the two shuttles run in a huge variety of time… I will also add that there are several private folks who drive kids to the airport or pick up in a pinch. It has been easy, but we went in knowing this was an added expense to the tuition…

We live on the west coast too, and Kenyon seems pretty easy to get in and out of. Columbus isn’t that far and I love being able to use SW, as their no fee cancellation policy or bag fee is fantastic. My older S goes to college in Canton, NY… Kenyon seems like a breeze compared to that… @emptynest… does SW always connect in Chicago. or have you found other cities that are more west to connect?

My son’s SW flights from the west coast to Columbus connect through Midway, Phoenix or Las Vegas.

Oh cool… Phoenix and LV will be much better in the winter months:)
