Transportation

hey if i arrive @ sac airport at nite, is there transortantion or davis? or like train to bay area?

It depends on what time you arrive. The last bus from the airport to Davis leaves at 9:23 pm.

wat about train?

The train doesn't go from Sac Airport to Davis. You'd have to take a bus into Sacramento (the airport is not close to the train station) and then get the train to Davis (and I'm not sure about the train schedules..). If you're arriving at the Sac airport after the last bus leaves for Davis, you're best bet would be Super Shuttle or a similar van service (I'm not familiar with the van services but I think there is a Davis van service).

Yeah it's definitely not worth the trouble to take a train between Sacramento and Davis. And the thing Oakland Mom is talking about is called the Davis Airporter. Davis Airporter - Davis Wiki or Davis Airporter.

I'm transferring to UCD this Fall and I chose Davis over UCLA, UCSC, and UCSB. I live in So Cal and have friends who have attended UCLA and graduated so grumpy at the fact that they got so "lost" by the size of the campus. Every year I attend the UCLA Book Fair and have met Ray Bradbury, TC Boyle, Frank McCourt and so on. I love UCLA but I made the decision to attend Davis on more than just "prestige"; my girlfriend will be going to UCSC (we've been dating for more than a year and a half and we're still madly in love), I refuse to pay egregious gas prices and parking prices as well as the cost of rent for a cardboard box in Westwood. Moreover, I've had enough of the scene on Sunset. When I visited Davis I noticed how much slower people walked, talked, ate and drank - the town has an appreciation for quality of life - I came home and realized everyone in So. Cal has ADD.

I took my girlfriend and mom out to Sophia's Thai. Amazing. Finally a place that isn't a PFChangsCaliforniaPizzaKitchenOutbackSteakHouseStarbucksblandblandblandcorporateownedplace.
The only decent places to eat in the Valley are slowly disappearing because of the increase in rent. womp womp.

Davis is OG, and LA is fake. UCLA is great, but I personally need to get away. I won't need my car (woot! look at gas prices guys) I'll be closer to my girlfriend (woot!) I'll be closer to Sacramento(internships+) I'll be able to double major (woot woot!) I found an amazing place for $600/mo (woot!) And when I apply to grad schools (UCB/UCLA) I know I'll be at an advantage coming from a 2nd tier UC.

My friend who graduated from UCLA graduated with ok(3-3.5) grades but because his classes were so large he rarely had the opportunity to speak to his professors (who were so focused on research - the primary reason they're at UCLA). He is now at a huge loss because he has no letters of rec. for grad school.

i was browsing and i noticed someone asking transportation to davis from socal. im from socal and the past couple of times that ive been to davis ive gone in an airplane. ive only flown with southwest, they have pretty cheap rates if you book your flight in advance. otherwise you might be spending about the same if you were to drive. i didnt want to sit in a car for over 6 hours.

however this september when i do move to davis ill be going in a car. some people have told me that the drive will be more than 6 hours because of traffic. while others have said "what traffic?" since apparently once youre out of the LA area the drive gets pretty boring. i met someone at orientation from socal who said the drive was about 5 hours.

hope that helps!

I made it to Davis in 4.5 hrs going about 80mph on the 5 :|

nicee.

where are you from andandy, if you dont mind me asking?

Ventura County, Ca

Be sure NOT to call it THE 5 at UCD. In Nor Cal we refer to it as 5 or I 5. This goes for all freeway references. ;)

The THE Controversy - Davis Wiki

ah. nicee.

im from the LA area and the person i met was also from the LA area. =]

what?? i always call it the 5. ahaha.

My transfer orientation guide said "hella" :/ I laughed so loud and then he did when he realized what I was laughing about. So good, so good.

damn that word..."hella"
D:
i don't remember wat us so. cal people use a lot

Lol my friend/hopefully future roommate from Norcal asked me what people in Socal say a lot and I couldn't think of anything. =P

Don't So Caler's typically use like a lot. Like how are we like going to get a ride?

no, everyone uses the word like a lot, not just so.cal

oh i meant train from sac to oakland

When I first heard someone refering to hwys like THE 80, the 680/24 interchange, or The 880 corridor (instead of the nimitz) I was suprised. It just seems unnessary to me and while when I visit my grandparents in the San Fernando Valley of LA or relatives in Socal, it doesn't bother me to hear "The 405" or "The PCH" becuase in socal, thats part of their names. In the bay area, sacramento and anywhere north of the Grapvine and Santa Barbara in the west we name the hwys after people or just numbers. The is not part of the title. News reporters (the long tenured ones) just say "There's a slowdown on eastbound 80" or "traffic on 101 north into marin is improving etc."

are there campus buses that takes you to different places on campus?
are the stops far from each other? because i can't bike so i'll have to depend on those buses when i don't want to walk

what are those buses called?
is there a schedule of the time/stops online?
