The WUSTL Admission Office called me and offered me a free plane ticket to and back for an overnight visit (staying with a student though, not at a hotel) for a period between Nov 4. and Nov. 20. Has anyone else gotten this? What's the catch? I find it a bit weird they'd spend $1000 on a prospective student for them to visit (I live in New England).

Hell, I wish I was offered one.

Wash U spends a lot of money recruiting students. You've seen all the mail right? Well they also fly prospects in for big weekends a couple times a year. It's legit and the weekends are pretty well planned. Have fun

do you have to be offered this opportunity? I am a swimmer and I've been in contact with the wash U swim coach so If I asked him if I could come out for an official visit would he offer to pay my way?
Also: I've heard that WUstl really takes into consideration whether or not you've visited the campus in their decision process; how much does it hurt if you can't get out there for financial reasons?

The Wash U swim team just got through with a busy recruiting month bringing kids in to visit....maybe the coach will have you out in the spring. My son visited campus and had his official admissions interview with the coach and I really think it helped get him admitted!

I got the same invite, and am going on the 9th. there's no catch! :)
