Tricky situation...

Hi W&M and cc forum-goers!

First off, a wholehearted congratulations to the already-admitted students to the class of 2016!

So:
I recently sent in my regular decision application for admission (and I did fill out the optional submission section in the supplement). My heart skipped 3 beats when I realized not 15 minutes after submitting my application that there was a typo in the optional submission. I'm not sure why I didn't catch it, as both I and my mom proofread it. I spent a lot of time on the submission, and William & Mary is my top choice, so I'm freaking out right now - I know a typo doesn't necessarily make-or-break my admissions chances, but it's unprofessional, and I think it will make it seem like I don't care about W&M enough to proofread my application. I was considering writing an email to the admissions committee saying pretty much what I'm writing here and apologizing profusely, but I don't know if that's a good idea given the fact that it will call attention to the typo.
Suggestions/advice would be appreciated - thank you!!

Can you just edit the typo and send it again? Stick a note on it that says “I noticed I missed a typo when I submitted this, and since W&M is my first choice I wanted to send a corrected version for my file. Thanks so much! - catspajamas”

Make sure you put whatever ID info your application had (name, if there is an ID number, last 4 of ssn, whatever) on it when you re-send so they definitely know what file to put it in (it is possible there are multiple applicants with the same name).

that is what I would do. Especially since the deadline hasn’t passed yet, I don’t see why you couldn’t send a new one. Perhaps W&M admissions will respond with different guidance.

socceguy is right. You are welcome to mail in a corrected copy with a note explaining that you’d like this copy to replace the one submitted online (once you submit online you cannot edit it so mail or fax is the best way to send in a replacement copy).

Phew, that’s a relief!
Thanks so much guys.
