Hey everyone! I’m applying to Marshall and I’m from Michigan. I think it would be amazing to go to USC.

go usc trojans!!!
hey guys i am from cali and applied to marshall of business

Hey guys! I’m a female from Maryland. I visited USC last summer and thought it was amazing. I applied as a Psychology major to CLAS (pre-med route maybe?) but I’m thinking of changing my major already haha. But I also like writing and journalism, so I’m not sure yet. I think double-majoring in two different fields would be a lot of work.

I have my doubts about getting in though; my SAT score isn’t that great, but I do have an upward trend with my grades… I’ve heard about people getting in with low SAT scores … who knows? I hope we all get in! :D

good luck to everyone who applied:) now its in god hands

Hello everyone! USC is for sure my top choice! I was born in LA and I want to go back!
I want to major in polisci, but my stats are kinda low for USC. =/
Hoping that my ECs, my interview (which was amazing!) and essay push me over?
Ha doubt I’ll get in but I can dream right?
My second choice is also UW!

SamIAm020792,

I was in Michigan for 2 years…now I’m in seattle but also applying Marshall! But tbh, UM too has a great business school that you should seriously consider =) which city are you from? I used to go to school in Ann Arbor.

mimizist,

I actually live in Ann Arbor! I have already been accepted to the University of Michigan, and it is definitely one of my top choices as well. I know they have a wonderful business school here, obviously a big draw! Tuition is extremely reasonable at U of M, which would be the main thing that potentially keeps me away from USC.

Whatsupp;
Guy from Arizona, wanna double major in econ/marketing…applied for just econ and will add the other major, my number one school…my stats are right on point for USC…BUT there are 22 kids applying from my school lol, I’m probably top 5 or 6

Welcome everybody!

@lesliehr, yay for a fellow Annenberg…ian. Haha. Well, an Annenbergian hopeful anyway. The school is amazing beyond words. I’m officially obsessed.

@Eiffel,

That’s really interesting how you’ve done all of this yourself. We have a great film program at our school but I’ve never taken advantage of it.

“You should definitely do the screenwriting minor, though! You could find out you’re a natural at it and end up being a professional screenwriter. But a behind-the-scenes job would be pretty interesting too. Have you looked into Chapman U? It has a lot of different programs for the film industry, including Creative Producing and Public Relations & Advertising (which both sound up your alley!)”

Maybe you’re right. I hope I’ll be able to take a Screenwriting class if I get in. I haven’t even taken the time to really see what it takes to write screenplays. As it is I already have two important minors in mind (Entertainment Comm and Comm Design), so maybe I’ll change one of them! Writing is my passion as well. I was thinking of applying to Chapman, but for some reason ended up not doing it. It seems like a pretty good school though. I didn’t know they had such specific majors.

“There are so many things about all the schools I applied to that I love (except UCB…I almost definitely wouldn’t go there).”

I agree about Berkeley. Number one, I likely won’t get in. And number two… even if I did, it doesn’t seem like I’d fit in. I don’t know why. The campus feels really collegiate and impressive, but… it doesn’t seem exciting enough.

Yay for the UW applicants out there.
I don’t really have a decent state university to fall back on (everyone told me not to go there except my mom who just wants me to apply just in case something happens and I can’t go away)

My second choice is definitely transferring at the moment. It’s just the choice of whether I should go to the best school possible straight out of high school or an easier one to get the good grades USC wants. I guess that also depends on which schools I get into in the first place.

I kind of wish I applied for Chapman, but I was stubborn and refused to touch the Common App. It’s not due yet, but I’d be cutting it pretty close. Maybe LMU, too. It’s just a little weird, because my cousin goes there. And when we visited it didn’t impress me that much. Not that I didn’t like parts of it. A little weird, I guess, but the sun shining on the white buildings was pretty blinding.

Eiffel, that’s really cool you guys have been doing that show. I never even got the chance to do Video Production at my school (thanks to four years of band and the school not letting seniors take the class). It’s great that your brother is interested in it too. I just live with my parents, which doesn’t make for a very academically stimulating environment.

lesliehr/Lauren: Haha, my half-sister’s name is Leslie and my cousin’s name is Lauren. Cool. :)

@Marmar: Yeah, I’m still considering applying to Chapman, but I’m not really sure about it either…Eh…If I did, I’d apply as a TV Production major though.

Well, for Berkeley, I’ve read and heard that a lot of students are depressed, unfriendly, stressed-out, et cetera and that people solely focus on schoolwork and seldom enjoy themselves. And for my college experience, I want to balance academics with extracurriculars, fun, et cetera.

@Trumpet:

“I kind of wish I applied for Chapman, but I was stubborn and refused to touch the Common App. It’s not due yet, but I’d be cutting it pretty close.”

The Chapman app–if you’re not applying for any of the film majors–is really easy. All you do is the Common App essay and a brief “Why do you want to go to Chapman?” response. You should do it!

“Maybe LMU, too. It’s just a little weird, because my cousin goes there. And when we visited it didn’t impress me that much. Not that I didn’t like parts of it. A little weird, I guess, but the sun shining on the white buildings was pretty blinding.”

I applied to LMU as a safety, and it’s also pretty good in screenwriting. I’m a little concerned with the religious aspect of the school, though, since it’s a Catholic school and I’m an atheist. When you visited, did you get a religious vibe from it at all? Also, how close was it to the airport? Did you hear a bunch of planes all the time?

“Eiffel, that’s really cool you guys have been doing that show. I never even got the chance to do Video Production at my school (thanks to four years of band and the school not letting seniors take the class). It’s great that your brother is interested in it too.”

Thanks! Yeah, we do have one Video Production class at school but I never took it either. What instrument do you plan in band?

Eiffel: Chapman’s actually a little small for my tastes, but it seemed nice when we visited. Unfortunately, it was almost deserted and we didn’t get to talk to anyone, so I’m not sure.
There’s a good chance if I end up doing the common app though.

I don’t think LMU is incredibly religious. I mean it’s obviously there, but I don’t think my cousin has actually ever gone to their church services. And there are a couple required courses, but the tour guide pretty much insisted that it wasn’t a big part of the education. (As we stood outside of the chapel. Of course. :rolleyes: ) I think I remember reading about how you can take more informational courses too. Probably unlike the religious classes at my high school that teach us how to follow the ways of…well, whatever the Bible says.
But I’m not strongly religious anyway, so. Yeah.
[Edit: I’m not sure about the airport. I didn’t notice anything in the [short] time we were there. Also, I’m assuming the religion thing is one of those things where if you want it you can find it, but if you want to avoid it, you can do that too.]

I’m a huge trumpet geek. Not as much as others, I guess, but I really like it. But I march with color guard for our field shows. Hence my username.
I’m sad that not many colleges have a marching band. Major plus for USC, there.

“Chapman’s actually a little small for my tastes, but it seemed nice when we visited. Unfortunately, it was almost deserted and we didn’t get to talk to anyone, so I’m not sure.”

That’s exactly what I experienced! I went during the summer and there was only one person there. lol.

That’s good to know about LMU too! Thanks! :)

Omg, I feel so dumb for asking you what instrument you play. LOL Obviously, the trumpet! I used to play the flute, but now I prefer using my voice as my instrument. And yeah, if you want to be in a college marching band, USC is pretty much the best.

@Eiffel:

“When you visited, did you get a religious vibe from it at all? Also, how close was it to the airport? Did you hear a bunch of planes all the time?”

I live less than a mile from LMU. I’m not applying there since it’s so close (like, I could walk there) but it’s a beautiful campus. Yes, it’s really close to LAX but I wouldn’t say airplane noise is that big of a deal. Maybe that’s because I’m used to it, but I don’t think anyone would notice it. People love LMU around here, and I know that it has a pretty good reputation in the LA area.

I wouldn’t say it has that much of a religious vibe. Yeah, there’s a Chapel but I think it’s really your decision whether or not you participate in religious activities at the school.

SamIAm020792,

do you also happen to go to huron? i was there for my freshmen year haha, didn’t really get to know a lot of people though =(

congrats on your acceptance to UM! I didn’t apply since I knew I wouldn’t want to go back mainly because of the weather…although my dad graduated from there.

Thanks, Marmar! That’s cool that you live so close to a great campus. The closest campuses to me are SDSU and UCSD but both are about 45 minutes away.

mimizist,

hah no i go to pioneer. thanks! i’m definitely happy i got in and i think there’s a pretty high chance that i’ll go, but a really big part of me wants to get out of michigan and the cold weather! what other schools are you looking at?

SamIAm020792,

Hm, some UCs, U of Washington, Boston U, Chicago U, maybe Emory…and that’s about it. But I still like USC the most =) and california really has lovely weather. Seems like you are applying around to a ton of Ivies, good luck with that! I definitely don’t have the stats to do so =P

@Eiffel

Really late response, been out lol, but year, USC is definitely my top choice. I want to get far far away from kentucky haha. I also agree with college being about more than just academics. I mean it’s 4 years of your life that you can’t get back! Better make 'em good!

@SamIAm

I got accepted to UMich too, funny though because USC would be ridiculously cheaper for me because I’m OOS for UMich. USC’s financial aid coupled with everything else that is so amazing about it just makes it so perfect, considering they cover 100% of financial aid and my family made ~$30k last year, I kinda need the fin aid, and UMich is relatively weak in that department, especially for OOSers.

I’ve been wavering between UMich and USC, but those are definitely my top 2, actually only applied to 3 schools, UMich, USC, and UK(university of kentucky) as a safety/financial safety. My decision kinda wavers on financial aid, and the fact that USC is so far away that It’d be hard to come home even for the holidays kinda hurts I guess, but it’s not that bad.

Just hoping I get in. If they get my most recent ACT (33) I think I’m really really well off, but right now they have my 28, but since I’m applying to Viterbi, I think the 35 in math will help me regardless.

Good luck to all future and hopeful Trojans!

So to veer away from college talk, what kind of TV/movies do you guys like? :)
