why is the housing estimate so high? its 6k +. and i applied for low cost housing.
is that the same for everyone regardless. also do i get some refund money if my credits are over my debits? cause those deposits are put on the credit side, but i wanted my scholarships to cover the costs. i tried calculating my costs beforehand and it turned out that i wouldn't need to pay anything except 2k which my work study would cover. now it seems like im paying 4k total cause of the 2k deposits used. sorry i suck at explaining things.

They put in a standard housing estimate until it’s pretty certain what your room will be. Then they’ll reverse the estimate and put in the revised amount. Even if you applied for low cost, you might not have gotten it. I can’t remember when we found out, but check in the “housing tutorial” (great link, btw) to see what dorm and room you have; then check w/Housing to see if it’s an LCT. If it is, you’ll get a nice decrease, esp. if it’s in Rubin or Brittany (even lower since no a/c).
Work study will not decrease your tuition bill. You still have to pay what’s left excluding ws. You get the ws $ via paychecks if you work.
You don’t get actual money back from the school unless it’s due to too much of a loan being paid to NYU.
