Tulane Class of 2023

Ah, thanks @Napafolie. Makes sense. Note the self: have morning coffee before reading CC.

There is also “summer melt” when students either take other waitlist spots, decide to take a gap year, can’t pay the deposit or what have you. So if waitlists are still open, movement can occur then (and sometimes even when waitlists are closed).

@firstwavemom, Tulane’s waitlist is the same as a rejection. Over the past five years, every single year, Tulane has put thousands on the waitlist. Until last year (that is, four straight years, beginning in 2014-15 cycle), exactly ZERO were accepted off the waitlist. Last year, Tulane doubled the amount of students on its WL, from 5k plus to 10k plus. It accepted 2 applicants from that list of 10k plus WL students. One wonders why they even bother? And why double the size of the WL to 10k? I expect we will see many thousands more “waitlist” rejections by this April 1…

But hoping for many well deserved acceptances in the coming days and best of luck to you all!

Yep!! Tulane, per its CDS, took a whopping TWO people from its waitlist this past admissions year out of 3111 that accepted a place on the list! (see lineC2)

@jym626 You sound really knowledgeable about Tulane admissions. I’d love your thoughts on my d’s chance as we anxiously await decisions. She is very interested in Tulane, but did not apply ED1 there because she used that shot (unsuccessfully) on a pure reach school. She got an email from Tulane late December asking if she wanted to change her RD application to ED2 and she still didn’t do it because she wasn’t positive she wanted to commit and had a couple of other high reach schools. Fast forward, none of the high reaches worked and she may have limited chances at Tulane RD. She has a 1420 SAT, 4.0 unweighted and 4.99 weighted. She dances several hours a day, 6 days a week and is involved in her school’s newspaper and television production. We live in the northeast but she was born in New Orleans and lived there until third grade and actually wrote her essay about the impact of Hurricane Katrina and our subsequent relocation. I know they really loaded up during ED1 and 2-- how much of a longshot is it at this point? Thank you for any thoughts to share!

@4kids4colleges my comment was meant to be more about how schools gauge how many students to accept in order to create a class than the waitlist. Tulane’s waitlist does seem to be like a rejection. With any waitlist, a student needs to put a deposit on another school and if the waitlist actually is used, then students have a shot–apparently not at Tulane. It’s always good to be informed about the process for each school.

Thanks, @Clairenola. At this point, though, best is to wait until tomorrow!! Results will likely (hopefully?) be out then.

I have been following Tulane’s (and other schools’) admissions for probably 15-16 years. Its been interesting, to say the least…

@jym626 what fun is waiting??? I’m going back and forth between planning where I’m going to eat dinner when I bring her for admitted student visit and second guessing all of the advice I gave her! I have learned a lot throughout this journey, its too bad this is my first… next time will be better lol

@Clairenola, your D’s stats are similar to my S19’s, and he is a 3 sport Varsity athlete with 3 Captainships this year so many, many hours spent on sports (like the hours put in dancing). He too was rejected from his high reach ED1 but then decided to take the plunge with ED2 and was very happy to be accepted at Tulane. Seems to me your D has an excellent chance, especially with the NOLA connection! Best of luck to you.

@4kids4colleges Thanks so much! Congratulations and best of luck to your son! He will love New Orleans, I am counting the years until I can retire and move back

@Clairenola Tulane really wants the kids that really want Tulane! Hopefully that will come through on your daughter’s app. We can’t wait to visit!

I wasnt able to visit the campus and Tulane doesnt do any college fair visits in my area so I wasnt really able to show much interest through that.

However, I have called Tulane multiple times and sent email inquiries to my assigned admissions counselor multiple times. Will they view that as demonstrated interest?

Will legacy help me if I already have good stats. 34 ACt

It can’t hurt. Many schools consider legacy more heavily during ED rather than RD. Good luck!

Haven’t found what percent were admitted in ED II, but they filled 26% of the class with ED I applicants. last year. If they did something similar this year, and say, between ED1 and ED II they filled, say more than half the class, and they received 41,365 applications, with plans to enroll fewer students this year to address some over enrollment issues in the past, It is going to be tough for RD applicants. The good news- they WILL FOR SURE be releasing the RD results TOMORROW. They are estimating a 13% admission rate. So, Good luck everyone!!! Wanting to return to NOLA is certainly intriguing, @Clairenola and her love for the area surely shone through her essay (with hopefully a focus on why Tulane moreso than why NOLA). Did she meet with the dance faculty on campus? Did her ED application preclude her from applying to Tulane EA?

OK- found that last year they filled 42% of the class with ED and EA applicants, and the midrange SAT was 1330- 1490. The waitlist this year is half the size it was last year (so will be around 5,000) http://tuadmissionjeff.blogspot.com/2012/03/waitlist-now-what.html

Does anyone have a guess as to what time decisions will come out tomorrow?

@jym626 I didn’t even know they had EA! See, I was very naive and under informed. She added Tulane pretty late in the game so maybe it was past that deadline anyway. She didn’t meet with dance faculty because she isn’t planning to dance in college :frowning: Fingers crossed for tomorrow! How did you know it’s for sure tomorrow??? I can’t wait for this whole thing to be over.

@Clairenola - read the first line of Jeff’s blog that I linked above  (in my previous post).

“This year we admitted a substantially smaller group of students so as to not over-enroll the class.”

?i can already picture my rejection letter
