Tulane Class of 2023

waitlisted after deferred ea, captain for two varsity sports, mock trial captain, civil engineering, 33 act, 8 APs, great recs, 1470 SAT superscore, I’m ok with it though because I got into Webb Institute in Glen Cove, NY and think that’s where I am going to go

Son was deferred from EA and now waitlisted.
34 ACT, 4.4 GPA (HS doesn’t release rankings but def top 10%), lots of AP, varsity athlete, Natl Merit commended student…
Onward.

Did a single person get in RD on this thread? Sorry, this is sad and seems unfair. No doubt everyone has great other options, but sorry.

@4kids4colleges my D’s best friend was accepted but i’m so surprised there aren’t more on the thread.

Accepted RD with 33 act & 3.6 uw gpa. 2 leadership positions, 1 varsity sport, 1 outside service organization. 1 AP, 1 Honors junior year & 5 AP’s senior year. I got a 3 on the junior year exam. Must have been my essays because my stats are about the same as everyone else on here.

TU admissions is all about “love me”, “give me love”, “show me love”, “love me above all else”, “love and adore and complement me” and I will take you into my embrace even with lower stats.

@enjoylifeandbehappy I think it’s less about that in itself, and more about accepting students who they think will actually attend, thereby increasing yield/ lowering acceptance rate. They have a huge marketing campaign (they sent posters to every senior at my high school and held THREE information sessions), a free application, ED1 & 2 and EA, make their essays optional, and wait as late as possible to finalize their admissions. All these things contribute to more applicants but fewer (relative) admits. I’d like to see the data on how many people are deferred/ denied ED, my guess is it’s pretty low.

For those of you who do not follow his blog, this post may prove helpful: http://tuadmissionjeff.blogspot.com/2019/03/its-going-to-be-okay.html

D deferred EA and now waitlisted. No surprise, after seeing all the rejections and deferrals here of students with even better stats than D. Her stats: 1450 SAT, 3.4 GPA, good recs and ECs, average demonstrated interest.

@djbridjmurh - Last year they accepted 30.8% of ED applicants https://news.tulane.edu/news/class-2022-welcomes-world%E2%80%99s-best-and-brightest

@clbbrock63 there is zero chance that 75-80 of EA/ED applicants are accepted. That is absurd. They would have 12,000 kids in their freshman class.

@Bayeriffic I agree with you. I’ve seen the 80% ED acceptance rate stated twice on this thread. I don’t know how it was started but it’s grossly inaccurate and misleading to future applicants. As stated above, it was around 30% last year. I’ve heard it was lower this year but we won’t really know until the stats are released.

I really do not understand the negativity around expressed interest. Why wouldn’t a school want to admit students who truly want to attend their school? I understand it’s disappointing to be denied admissions but Tulane like many other schools could fill their freshman class many times over with qualified candidates. It stinks to be denied but it doesn’t make those whom Tulane found to be a good fit any lesser of a student.

@Momof3kidz agree completely
I also read that the EA acceptance rate reduced to very low. The college process is screwy. My son got in EA with 30K a year. He got into some amazing schools but was also waitlisted/rejected from some schools that were supposed to be easier
He’s attending Tulane!

Hi everyone, now that this application journey is over for me I thought I’d share my stats and final results. Maybe it will help some reconcile their results this year, and maybe it will help those next year…

My daughter was waitlisted after EA deferral. 32 ACT/ 4.05W GPA, 4AP and many honors classes. Four-year varsity athlete. So-so community service and no demonstrated interest. Congrats to all accepted and best of luck to those waitlisted.

@UGG2023 congrats! Where are you attending?

Does anyone know how many students applied and how many were admitted ED1/2 combined?

@Bayeriffic doing some revisits, not sure yet

@himcdonough I have not seen anything released yet for this year. For the class of 2022, they had 1819 applicants and accepted 562 for ED.

Thx @Momof3kidz. Pls post if you come across it!
