Tulane EA and ED Admission Decisions - Class of 2021

For those with high scores who have not heard. Historically many with the highest scores are deferred, because Tulane does not like to be used as a safety. I think that was part of the reason for the new ED, so a student can show, without a doubt, they are committed to Tulane. If they do not withdraw the application as required when they accept elsewhere they will get in in the RD round. Keep in mind that Tulane is also trying to keep their yield statistic up!

I think someone had a point earlier about very high stat kids. Tulane may think they applied ED to an IVy or other top tier school, so if they defer them, those people accepted ED will withdraw their Tulane app. This will help with yield. I don’t believe every high stat kid is rejected. Deferred and mostly accepted. Just my
Speculation. My son did get in and was probably top 10% but with one B but it was probably his 2100+ SAT that got him in already. I bet I if he had the 2300+ with his grades, he too would be waiting. The 2100+ though makes it tougher to get in an Ivy.

Admissions office confirmed that results will be intermittently released at 7 PM (and no other time) central time at random dates between now and Dec. 20
So basically you can check once a day!

I have a 2270, I’m fairly nervous that will get me a deferral .

I heard of a kid last year that had a 36 ACT. High GPA. He got rejected from all Ivy’s and top schools even during the RD round. Tulane deferred him and then rejected. So it was very disappointing for him. I guess because they thought he’d get into an Ivy, but he never did. He ended up at a California state college.

@lourveamerican it depends on how high your GPA is. If they think you can get into an Ivy then you may. I am worried for my son. I know he really liked the school and he is looking to go warm. No schools are safety’s these days so you need to apply to more than one even if it is your top school.

@fun1234, I feel bad for that poor kid. Did you have a guess for what contributed to his results?

I am not sure, but he applied to Rice ED then was rejected from them and the same time deferred from Tulane and never was accepted to Tulane in the regular decision round. It seemed pretty harsh. I know my son will be very sad if the only schools he can get into are state colleges. He worked so hard in school and his outside activities. He was top 2 or 3 in his class. I guess they don’t say until 3rd quarter, but he is pretty sure he is one of those. So I see results like this and think oh could that happen to him. I made sure my son took a very rigorous seniors year schedule compared to last years. That was the only thing I noticed is he may have been able to add an AP class. He was on the AD team so I am sure he was thinking of that like a class, but colleges don’t. My son took 5 AP’s and anatomy and physiology(7 credits) . It has been hard, but he is glad he did it. One of his friends on the other hand took 9 credits and now has one “c” it certainly is balance. I guess the person never mentioned 1st quarter grades they do look at them there. So I am not sure if something was up there or maybe you never know it could be references. I know there is a kid at my son’s school that cheats. So I guess you never know about how someone reference will be written. College applications can be filled with unknowns.

Should we send our quarter grades if we haven’t heard yet?

I was told by admissions office only to send semester update and not quarter grades

i called and heard there was only one more day that were going to release a big wave of decisions between now and dec 20

wonder if thats actually the case im so nervous ^^^

This is different from what Cereal3 previously posted today at 9:50am. Must be getting different answers from different people- Admissions office confirmed that results will be intermittently released at 7 PM (and no other time) central time at random dates between now and Dec. 20
So basically you can check once a day!

Is it true that there is a better chance of getting accosted if you applied earlier? Like I applied a couple days before the EA deadline and people seem to think that there are more people deferred to applied later and more accepted who applied earlier

I don’t get it. Tulane says 12/20. I won’t care until 12/21

Getting very nervous here. D applied EA and hasn’t heard back. She wants a smaller school than our state schools so would pick Tulane over UCLA and Berkeley. Her stats are the highest of anyone who has applied from her high school in the last four years (Naviance) and now I am afraid she will be deferred. Any suggestions on how to show her interest is real?

@tenniswimvball I am in the same boat- 2270 sat, 3.9 gpa, but I really want to go to Tulane. I emailed my admissions officer about the Homeland Security program (my intended major) and then emailed back and forth with a student in the program about the major and her participation in greek life. I hope that showed interest…

Did you ever get a response from your admissions officer?

I’m on the opposite side: High GPA, many AP classes, a lot of demonstrated interested, early decision applicant… But average SAT and ACT scores. Hoping I have enough to make up for them, but judging from how people with near perfect test scores are getting rejected I am starting to not be as hopeful.

@789frizbee what are your stats?
