Tulane EA and ED Admission Decisions - Class of 2021

1035

“She wants a smaller school than our state schools so would pick Tulane over UCLA and Berkeley. Her stats are the highest of anyone who has applied from her high school in the last four years (Naviance) and now I am afraid she will be deferred. Any suggestions on how to show her interest is real?”

Probably not much that can be done between now and 12/20. But if your high-stat kid gets deferred (i.e. “Tufts syndrome”) realize you’ve got many months and many ways to show Tulane that an offer (if made) would be accepted.

@momv60115 yes. she responded within a day with several contacts for professors, linking research that was done on counter terrorism at tulane (my intended field). she was incredibly helpful.

@4beardolls I guess looking back at why he didn’t get into Rice he was in the top 23% and from Texas so I guess that means his gpa was kind of low 3.85. Also I heard they could fill there class with all top 1 and 2 to Rice from Texas. It seems though it could of been a good fit with Tulane. So I am not sure how it all works and why he wouldn’t of been considered regular decision maybe no demonstrated interest.

@ZBlue17 @marijke hey I saw y’alls comment yesterday and I just wanted to clear some things up. Race and the student’s general background is definitely one of the many things taken into account when making an admission decision. I personally know that increasing diversity has been a major priority of Tulane’s this year and the entire admission staff knows that Tulane students will benefit from a study body that mirrors the real world. There was actually an article written earlier in the year discussing how this is a priority for admission http://tulane.edu/admission-office-welcomes-new-faces-and-perspectives

@lourveamerican Thanks for the response. We have reached out 2 times to our admissions counselor with no response at all. Stats are 35 ACT 3.93/4 GPA Strong Senior Schedule (AP and Honors) and lots of EC’s top 2.5% of class. Not sure what else to do. My child’s major is not a major at most schools and Tulane’s program is ideal. My kid is going nuts not hearing as they really want to go there. :frowning:

@momv60115 looks like we are in the same range as far as test scores/gpa/ecs. Maybe we will receive deferrals. I for one applied ED to an Ivy, so if I am deferred, it will be a correct prediction on their part I guess.

Wow, sounds like a perfect fit for your son. Did he apply ED?

@TulaneMaddie22 - Not according to their Common Data Set.

I’m sure that they welcome ethnic minorities and strive for diversity of backgrounds, but their Common Data Set literally says that they do not consider “Racial/Ethnic Status”.

@marijke crap that also says that LOR are important, and I didn’t sent one. Lol guess that is the final nail on my coffin

Maybe they will release tonight with the new random pattern? I am just way too hopeful.

What is LOR?

I never thought that high GPA and SAT/ACT score can cause deferrals… Go figure!

For those who are nervous, remember when we hear of someone rejected with a 36, we don’t know how strong their essays or letters of rec were. And Tulane is blatant that they really care about the “Why Tulane.” Optional does not mean that it is not highly recommended.

If someone applied EA at Tulane, then they couldn’t apply ED or SCEA at ivies. That shows interest as well of course ED shows even more.

@tula32 letter of rec

anyone think anything will be released this week?

Did the once a day check. Nothing.

nothing. again.

@Sportsman88 Are you sure they care about the “Why Tulane?” all that much? I didn’t submit the supplement and still got in with $25k merit aid (1410 SAT, 3.9 UW GPA).

I posted on here when I first got accepted, but I will post more detailed info now.

[]Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I think my application showed potential. I also submitted a dance supplement.
[
]Where else you are applying or have already applied: Fordham University, Georgetown University, Binghamton University (accepted), Duke University
[li]General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: I truly did not think I would receive the presidential scholarship! I would say just do whatever to make your application stand out. Also, note that college truly do pay attention to personal circumstances. [/li][/list]

Hi all! So I’m kinda confused. I just logged on to check on my application, and it didn’t say anything about my status until I noticed it said admitted up at the top of the screen. Not totally sure if that is just a page reviewing what to do if you’re admitted or what. Especially since I haven’t received any emails concerning my status, I was just curious if anyone else sees this?
