Tulane EA and ED Admission Decisions - Class of 2021

The acceptance package is a large flat cardboard envelope. A thin letter size envelope is not good news, IMHO.

I’ve been reading, and now feel I have some words to contribute. First, I do feel for the kids who received the erroneous emails. I am a parent, and, of course, when our child hurts, we hurt. However, like someone said before, this is an amazing learning experience for kids who need crucial learning experiences at this time in their life. Mistakes happen. Hopefully, sincere apologizes are given, as Tulane did. Very often, in life, mistakes happen and no apology is given. Very often, especially at work, people do things to actually intentionally hurt us/keep us down. This is not the case. This was an honest mistake, and I agree that it wouldn’t be fair to simply accept kids ED who weren’t going to be accepted ED. And, I also agree with another post: why would you, or your child, want to be accepted because of an error? And that brings me to the elephant in the room. If I understand correctly, this only affected ED applicants. Many of us would have LOVED to have our child apply ED, but we don’t have the financial resources to make the commitment. So OUR kids apply EA, if it is offered. That is us; my child is waiting to hear EA. And you know what? I feel so blessed for my child to have the health, intellectual gifts, and access to great foundational schools, to be able to apply to a fine school like Tulane? I could go on and on about what we have to be grateful for. So much of what we have in life are gifts. Remember that. Yes, if you have an education or substantial financial resources, you probably worked hard for it. But, you are also living in a country that gives you the opportunity to be successful. You also most likely had supports/advantages in your life that allowed you to achieve your successes. I could go on and on about this, too. We all have hardships, but let’s remember the gifts and advantages. So, correct me if I’m wrong, but those who applied ED have the financial resources for their children to attend many, many fine universities across the nation, if Tulane does not work out for your child. I would thank my lucky stars if I were you. Remember, attitude is everything. Your kids are watching your behavior and listening to your words. Have a wonderful weekend.

@SetAnExample I agree with your statement overall, but I disagree with one aspect of it. As an ED applicant for WUSTL, I did not have the financial resources at my fingertips to attend, but I knew that my love for the school would carry me through it. Yes, this may mean working my butt off for additional scholarships or applying for loans that will put me debt for countless years to come, but I chose to make that commitment. Keeping that in mind, I also would not have made that commitment for other “fine universities across the nation.” WUSTL was close to home and would have saved me more money in the long run. Attending other great institutions would require me to travel a lot farther than I was physically and financially able to do and may require me to pay out-of-state tuition. I have several friends facing the same situation. Just keep in mind that applying ED does not mean you have all of the financial resources you need. Sometimes, you have to make the shoe fit.

@WashUDreamer I do apologize. I guess my understanding of ED is incorrect. Congratulations on your hard work and tremendous commitment to your education !! I would delete my comment, but it doesn’t seem to be possible. Take good care.

Do you think that this mistake has any bearing on the remaining ea applications that have not been released yet?

Idk. I have a feeling that Tulane just received a massive amount of applications, which caused them to be disorganized and maybe not have had enough time to finish the ea decisions.

@SetAnExample don’t delete your statement. It was probably one of the best posts of the 119 pages. Great 2nd post

My daughter received an e-mail from her admission counselor today that said “all of the remaining EA applicants should hear on the 20th”.

Question to anyone who was one of the 130 who got the email on Wednesday. What were the results of your application? Personally I got accepted but differed to spring (DM me so we can talk more)

@PCJazz
Thank you for your kind words.

Per the Tulane Hullabaloo(the student newspaper), none of the 130 were offered Fall 2017 admission. They were either deferred to the regular decision pool of applicants or offered Spring 2018 admission.

@SetAnExample Thank you for your thoughtful and wise post, and for your gracious engagement with others on this thread. Please do not delete your post. Your voice and insights are valuable.

Is it better to get deferred or offered a spring admission?? In y’alls opinion?

@789frizbee Admitted

@789frizbee Spring admission is definitely better than being deferred, especially this year. Tulane has already received 44,000 applications for EA and ED I decision plans, and if they accept a large number of EA applicants, along with more applicants from ED II, then regular decision will be extremely competitive, which it usually is. It’s definitely better to be admitted than to still be in limbo with a deferral or not get in at all.

Thanks, but no thanks, Tulane!!! My daughter was just accepted to her ED. I have an older daughter who is a juniorr at UC Santa Barbara who was accepted to seven out of the eight schools she applied to. I never experienced such disorganization and chaos as this Tulane admissions process. They say they aren’t rolling admissions?!? What do you call it then, when you start accepting students on October 31st and release decisions several Mondays after that??? Also, everyone received a different answer when they call admissions with questions. My daughter only applied because they sent her an application fee waiver. I was just hopeful she would receive an acceptance before hearing from her ED since Tulane started releasing decisions October 31st. What a joke!!! Good luck, everyone!

Tulane also only admitted 200 out of 1000 ED I applicants, and Jeff and the Admissions Office did make it clear that they did not plan to admit the majority of the class through ED.

Wow! Only 200! I was expecting more. I was excited, but hearing the negative comments on here about spring admissions kind of took it away.

Salty and braggy! So basically Tulane was your daughter’s safety and apparently it wasn’t so safe. That’s exactly the image Tulane wants. They do not want to be anyone’s “safety.”

Looking forward to hearing back from Tulane. Just wish that it could have been today for EA instead of the 20th. Hopefully I don’t go through the same drama the ED people did
