Tulane Online Application

Possible dumb question here - daughter completed section 1 and hit send - she received an indication on the page that an email containing the user name and password for section 2 had been sent to her email. Is there a time lag for this step as she has not received the email from Tulane? Thanks.

I thought it was rather automatic. Sorry if I am stating the obvious, but did she check her junk mail? It might have thought it was spam.

FC, thanks for the response. It was sent right away, not in junk mail but to some other folder in her gmail account.

I have had both happen, spam folder and some other folder other than the usual incoming box. Glad you found it, good luck to your daughter!

Wow FC - it is a whole new generation!

Yes, it happens every year! The students tend to lose touch after they start, and some parents drop off as well, which is natural. It is always good to hear from them from time to time though. I heard from one a couple of weeks ago that was in the inaugural class of Altman Scholars, so he will be a junior this year. He was wrestling with where to go two years ago, and obviously decided on Tulane based on various factors such as the Altman, finances, and I would like to think a little bit because of what he learned on here. Anyway, he is really doing spectacularly, having experiences I think most of never dreamed about at his age. That is ultimately the most satisfying part of all this, I think.

If someone would be so kind, could you post on here the exact wording for the prompts regarding the personal statement and the Why Tulane essays? Some people want to write out their thoughts before even starting the application, but of course you cannot see those parts until you submit Part 1. Thanks.

Here they are:

Personal statement:

Using the space below, please write between 250 and 500 words to describe a special interest, significant experience or achievement, or anything else that has special meaning to you or had a significant influence on you.

Optional:

Please describe why you are interested in attending Tulane.

Thanks very much, formertarheel!

Does anyone know approximately how long the 2nd optional essay should be (at a minimum)? It doesn’t say.

Optional:

Please describe why you are interested in attending Tulane.

Thanks!

I don’t think there is a minimum, but it seems to me you wouldn’t want it to be much less than the same 250 word suggestion for the personal statement. But if you can make a convincing statement in less, go for it. They love brevity.

On the upper end, I think it cuts you off after a certain number of characters, if I remember what people said from before, but I don’t remember what the limit was. I think it is around 500 words, give or take. You really don’t want it longer than that anyway, since the admissions people get tens of thousands and look unfavorably on overly long statements.
