So the Tulane app opened a few days ago and tonight I decided to submit an application for Early Action. I spent a few days working on the short essays they asked and I had some valuable information I already got from e-mailing professors and exploring website and whatnot, so my essays are of a pretty good quality.

They asked for the classes I am taking, I assume they meant what I am taking this fall, senior year. I put down my tentative schedule, is it okay if my schedule may possibly change(albeit very minor, maybe 1 class)? We haven't received our official schedules for the year yet so I went off of what I signed up for last year and I am 95% sure I'll have the classes I requested.

Also, my school is not opening to begin assisting with College help until July 29. I have already submitted my ACT score, but I won't be able to reach my counselor to do the "Post-Secondary Report" and "Counselor recommendation form" until July 29. Is it alright if I have a gap of roughly a week before I have my counselor submit these items & my transcript? I understand they can't review my application until all materials are received.

Sorry - this is the first college app I submitted and I am kind of bent on getting an acceptance letter (hopefully) as soon as possible so I don't have as much stress when it comes to applying to the other schools! Didn't know where else to ask my questions :)

Yes, certainly that is OK. They are only trying to get a feel for your strength of schedule. If one class changes, that shouldn’t be too big a deal. The biggest deal would be if you put down you are taking an AP class and then you don’t, unless it is being replaced with another AP class. Then you could just write your admissions person at Tulane and tell them you had a change in schedule at the last minute. It happens a lot, I am sure.

Yes, a week is nothing, especially this early. They won’t totally review your application and give you a decision quite this early anyway. The earliest I have ever heard of someone getting an acceptance is late September.

These are good questions for CC, definitely the right place.

I applied too! I was a little bit worried about the gap with the counselor items as well. This was one of the major applications for me - I hope it turns out well!

@fallenchemist i did the same thing Tualne is one of my top choices and i wanted to get my app and SAT score in as quickly as possible. However my guidance counseolr does not come back untill august 18 so i wont havw my school report sent for a while, i plan on calling to explain this, but i was able to get my school to send in a copy of my high school transcript.

@1325948 @mixedberrysaurus @Ctesiphon - That’s all great, but frankly you all are worried about something that isn’t remotely an issue. There is often, maybe even usually, a gap between when different documents come in. Sometimes the school stuff gets to Tulane before the student even submits the application! More often, there is frequently a gap of several weeks between when the app is submitted and the school and GC get everything else to Tulane, not to mention the testing company (ACT or ETS) getting that score to Tulane. Tulane will note your enthusiasm by getting the app in this early (the part you control) but certainly they know that GC’s are not around this time of year in many cases, and probably most cases. So @1325948, you don’t have to call because there is nothing to explain. It is all quite normal.

What will happen is sometime soon after receiving your application Tulane will create a Gibson account for you. That is their online system. It will then show what they have received and therefore what is still missing. When the file is complete, it will say that too. That will trigger a complete review of your file and, especially if it is good news, you will hear back pretty quickly. Because they also review you for merit scholarships (except for the full tuition ones) it takes a little time, but it is still pretty fast. If you are a borderline candidate, they will usually delay the decision to see how the rest of the applications are looking this cycle.

The point is they don’t care about any time gap between when they get piece #1 and the last piece, they only care when the file shows complete and triggers them to read your file in its entirety. They do probably make a mental note of sorts that you filled out the application so early, as I said. That certainly shows interest and enthusiasm, and those are factors. But that has nothing to do with when people that are not you get their parts into them. So please relax. You all are a step ahead in the “game”, that’s for sure.

Well, I had a change in schedule - and I won’t be able to take AP European History, if I wanted to take AP Physics. (which matters more to me). So I had to drop that class and opt for Organic Chemistry and another half-semester social studies class. I e-mailed Tulane undergraduate admissions explaining the situation, that shouldn’t be a problem right?

Not at all. Still a very challenging schedule. Plus they will note how quick and conscientious you were in letting them know. Makes a good impression.

I have to say, the fact that you can take Organic Chem in high school is amazing to me. That was nearly nonexistent in the “old days”.
