Depressing…

No update for me. Maybe tomorrow?

Waitlisted! At least now we know! S has ACT 34 (36 English and Science) 3.98 UW GPA, 5 dual enrollment classes, Governors school, fencer, a ton of AP and honors courses. Got accepted to all other colleges he applied to and got full ride from most schools. Funny Tulane was the safety and got waitlisted! Lol! Good thing he got into his reach School! Haha. Tulane app process was a mess compared to all the other schools he applied to. Good luck to all y’all whether you haven’t heard or you were wait listed or were rejected. you’ll have a great time at which ever school you choose to go!

No update for student in Maryland

I think greater than the threat of a negative comment here on CC.

Even greater than the threat of encouraging people on this forum of Tulane disappointment to email Jeff @ Tulane to express our collective frustration at his department’s chaotic and at times questionable admission practices (reposting the same placating letter that “everything will work out” post PRIOR to having students receive their much delayed decisions even well after Tulane knew that there was no room avail).

Better to communicate directly with your individual HIgh school college counselors. They are on the front line in the relationships with Tulane and other colleges. They are the ones whom admission departments try to court and curry favor and they are the ones who ultimately can affect change from schools that behave in an indifferent and perhaps lazy manner.

Tell your high school college counselor your concerns and at best they can demand schools like Tulane change their practices and at least warn future families in case they chose to have yet another year like this one.

Really confused on the process of the waitlist. If you are accepted off of it will you find out after decision day on May 1? If you do, that’s after all deposits are due so how would that work?

@mca000 You would send in your deposit to a school that you know u want to commit to, and then later on if u hear back from tulane and they accept u off the waitlist and u decide u want to go there, you tell the other school u changed ur mind but u most likely will not get the deposit money back.

@gogogogobruins Remember for some kids this was their top choice so loling Tulane as a “safety” for your kid is a little unkind. I don’t think Tulane is a safety for anyone anymore. Let’s remember that there’s a lot of sad and stressed kids on here and be kind.

not sure why I wasn’t put on the spring admit list but oh well

@GMKoon , perhaps you can let admissions know that you are open to starting in the spring (or the summer), if in fact you really are willing to start at a more untraditional time. That would show desire and being flexible on your part for the school.

According to the Washington Post article referenced in another recent post on CC, Tulane put about 1800 people total on its waitlists in 2014 and 2015. The total students admitted from the waitlist for that two year period = 0.

Obviously, Tulane needs to expand its waitlist to improve the odds.

accepted

decisions are out ??

@kibbles my point is that you never know who gets accepted it’s not just he numbers and it certainly is not the student’s “fault” if not accepted. I’ve read some people saying what did I wrong? Nothing! Tulane admit process was a chaos and the contact I’ve had with admissions was sad. It’s like they let kids have fun with it with no adult supervision. I had contacts with many admissions couselors and officers ( I worked as a guidance counselor in the past) and Tulanes response to my interaction with them this year was definitely subpar. If they think they are the Ivies of the South, they should act like it. I’ve contacted Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Duke, Stanford, penn, Cornell, Brown, Vandy etc and nobody was like Tulane. Very disappointed in their handling of the admission process. My other kids won’t be applying here for sure even though our 9th grader is getting college credit from Tulane for study abroad this summer.

@gogogogobruins I agree. Based on the acceptances/rejections/waitlists I’ve seen, there is not really a predictable path. Many are rejected who seem eminently qualified. I am telling my daughter that if she gets in, it’s to her credit; if she doesn’t, it’s not a reflection on her. It really is a crapshoot, because these schools simply cannot accept all the students applying who are qualified and would thrive there.

Is it my imagination, or did more students get waitlisted this year, not just at Tulane? So many of my daughter’s friends are reporting they have been waitlisted at multiple colleges.

@Nicoleg17 would u mind sharing some stats about your self? scores, where you are from, ecs, stuff like this

To all of those with significantly high stats and have been granted admission to top tier schools, Tulane is well aware. I have heard from a Tulane student that the admissions committee knows when Tulane is a student’s safety and when he/she actually is dying to go there. They automatically reject/waitlist if they have any kind of indication that you may be applying to Tulane as a safety or just “for fun” because they know that when accepted to top schools, you will go there. So you can sit back and laugh and say Tulane was just a safety, but it definitely backfires.

My son was accepted to Tulane in the fall, he was waitlisted from similar colleges who also had an absurd amount of applicants relative to the available spots. Notre Dame had close to 20,000 applicants for less than 2000 openings, Northwestern was close to 40,000 applicants. We went to Tulanes Top Scholars Weekend earlier this month and it was a very well run program, very beneficial to attend before deciding. It may be the case that admissions is simply overwhelmed with the number of applicants. No excuse for their perceived lack of communication, but possibly a reason for it.

I still haven’t heard. My friend was wait listed. I don’t know what they’re waiting for. How many people still have to hear? Still hoping I have a chance at being accepted…

@hopeful1199 I still haven’t heard.
