TULANE RD 2021

@cccrsn Hopefully they’re leaning toward accepting us!

@hopeful1199 no decision yet

hey so not sure if this will help, but for anyone who’s top choice is tulane and was waitlisted: my friend went and talked to the college counselors at my school, and they told her that tulane likes to play the interest game. that is, if you call them and tell them you’ll 100% go to their school if you are taken off the waitlist, then there’s a chance you will get accepted before the national decision deadline (may 1). so, whether or not this may be true, if tulane is still your number one, call them! tell them you’re willing to commit and it should help your chances. it’s definitely worth a shot!!

My S applied EA and was accepted within a week with a top scholarship. We visited Tulane in his Junior year and we do have lots of family locally. He applied RD to Case Western, which I believe is very comparable to Tulane. We visited once and he was waitlisted there even though his stats are well above 25-75%. He was accepted at GA Tech with IS tuition scholarship even though we are OOS and we did not visit at all. He was accepted at UNC Chapel Hill after a visit with no scholarship offer. He was rejected at Nortwestern (not a big surprise) and at Wash U which was a bit of a surprise. It’s a crap shoot. I told my son from the start that even though he is qualified for pretty much any school and would perform well wherever he went, he could not count on anything. It has all become a numbers game. Most (all) colleges bait you with snail mail and email to get you to apply so they can reject a lot of people and their acceptance percentages get lower. Yield is the newest thing, so I assume they are waitlisting more and accepting fewer so the yield percentage is better.

My Ss process at Tulane has been seamless, but he did not have to suffer through waiting for RD. Top Scholars weekend was well thought out and ran very smoothly. I’m not sure why they deliver decisions stretched out over days, but it certainly seems to create some anxiety. I hope Tulane hears some of these complaints and streamlines their process because I do believe it is a very good school and New Orleans is a great city. My S has not made a final decision yet, one school we have not heard from yet and we will hopefully find out about waitlisting before May 1, but we feel confident that he will be able to find a place at Tulane and be successful. Good Luck to everyone. Don’t let the rejections get you down, to a point it truly is the luck of the draw.

I wish I could count how many times I have said “I wish I knew then what I knew now” in the last month or so. My D was accepted EA very quickly at Tulane with great merit award (GPA 3.9 UW, 1460 SAT & 10 APs). She was wait listed at her 2 reach schools after being deferred EA and also accepted at 4 other schools comparable to Tulane academically. Since we have been deemed to be able to pay full ride at most schools by our EFC, the generous merit award from Tulane looks to be the tipping point in deciding where she will be attending next year…plus she loved the school and town when we visited. We have one more campus visit planned with our IS flagship school at UMD so we are close to a decision. After reading through this, I am guessing that Tulane accepted most students EA that fit their criteria and unfortunately it left a lot of candidates going RD out and wait listed. There is no doubt that there is no rhyme or reason to a lot of the decisions being made at all of the schools but there are so many great schools that I believe everyone should find a fit for them. Tulane was barely on our radar screen a year ago and now it is her first choice…go figure.

So I haven’t heard back from Tulane yet and I don’t really know what and when to expect as of right now. Does anybody know when the next ‘batch’ or ‘wave’ of decisions are coming out?

Who all is still waiting?

still waiting here in texas…,

I’m still waiting in Richmond VA

waiting in CA

What’re yalls stats like?

4.2, 30 ACT, 13 APS

At this point I’m expecting the worst

I’ve got a 1430, 4.3, 12 AP’s, 2 DE’s, the rest honors
I’m very confused as to why they’re taking this long to tell us. It seems cruel to draw it out this long just for a rejection.

I know I’ll be rejected because I didn’t write the supplement (only applied b/c there was no fee), but I can’t send a letter to my top choice appealing for more aid until I hear back, on the off-chance that I get some merit aid from Tulane, since I could use that as leverage. So annoying that I’ve been constantly monitoring this for 2 days straight even though I don’t want to go to Tulane and have no illusions that I’ll be accepted. Agh!

@gre3se @kgt5979 would you mind mentioning what those 13/ 12 AP classes were and what scores you got? (Just curious.)
