Ok, so this is a slightly dumb question and something that I know I should not be concerning myself with. But what about tv at boarding school? I know that there is one in the common room, but would I still be able to watch my fav. shows on a weekly basis? Or, if the dorms don't have wireless access, would I be able to find someplace where I can watch them on YouTube (I'm a big Days of Our Lives fan, lol). Obviously my first priority will be schoolwork and ECs, but I need Grey's Anatomy too, lol!

Probably, you wouldn't be able to watch them during the week. Most schools have bandwidth monitors, so you can't download them on your computer, but at Andover you can use the wireless in academic buildings to download your favourite shows if you like.

Whether or not you'll be able to watch your shows weekly depends on a lot of stuff - the other people on your hall and what they want to watch, whether or not you have to study hall, and if you have study hall what time it is in relation to the tv show - at my school study hall is from 7:30-9:30, so you can't watch tv between those times and you may miss part of your show.

If the school provides laptops, are we aloud to bring our own in addition?

What would you do with two laptops? I don't think you'd need two.

If you are a freshman, you probably won't have much time to watch television. A sample day of my son's: 8:00-9:25 Humanities/Intro to Religious Studies 9:35-11:00 Humanities/Freshman English 11:10-11:45 Community Meeting 12:00-1:25 Honors Algebra II 2:15-4:45 Sports Practice 5-6:15 Work Job 7:45-10:00 Study Hall 10:45 Lights Out.

I watch tons of shows - I download them from itunes and watch them streaming on abc.com, nbc.com, etc. I'm technically not allowed to watch TV during study hours, but I've done it...I prefer the commercial-low streams, though.

On ABC.com and Fox.com they have Lost online... would i be able to watch those (becasue of hte bandwidth monitors)? (at Andover or St. Andrew's in DE)

hulu.com is free and has every show imaginable. I would think you would have time to watch these shows on the weekends.

usually at boarding schools, downloading things of itunes can take DAYS…however site likes hulu and nbc work really well

Is the internet connection at Boarding schools slow?

You won’t be able to watch them as they first air (between limited time and TV access, the logistics just don’t work), but it’s very common for students to still keep up with shows. For example, at Andover, there is always a buzz about Lost and Gossip Girl. Most people keep up through Hulu.

The internet must vary from school to school, but I’ve never had any major problems with it.

well at sps, it depends where you are…in the dorms its okay… the classrooms are a bit slow, but still pretty good…but in the arts building and library its really fast
