Typical Attire on campus?

What is the typical attire worn on campus? Should a male bring a suit?

My son doesn’t have a suit. But, he does have several sports coats that he wears to fraternity events when appropriate. He bought them at Goodwill, so don’t think they have to be on the leading edge of fashion or a high-power brand.

I think the most common “dress up” attire I see him in (photos on facebook) would be khakis and a button down shirt. An occassional necktie.

:)

The only times I wear a suit are for a meeting with administrators or an interview. Both rarely happen.

For me personally, I usually wear very casual clothes to class. Sometimes just athletic shorts and a t-shirt.

DougBetsy gave a good idea of what to bring for “nice” clothes.

@PragmaticDad: I would say that Wake students dress up more often than your average college student. Not many people wear sweats to classes - but people aren’t exactly wearing bowties to class either. I would say to class your average guy is wearing shorts or jeans and a t-shirt or nicer top, and your average girl is wearing jeans and a nice top.

I have friend who go to our state school and they literally all wear sweats to class. That simply isn’t what Wake is, really, although I tend to wear sweats to my morning classes and people are NOT exactly staring at me like I have 8 heads. :)

I would say you probably don’t need a suit freshman year, but a junior business school student might want one for internship interviews.
