Typical day as a boarding student

Heyy!!! Could someone please walk me through a typical school day and a typical weekend at a borading school

Here is a typical day at a NE school without chapel (please check your schools where there is chapel). Also, many schools have a half day on Wednesdays with an alternate schedule because sporting events are in the afternoon. Several schools we know also have meetings on Wednesdays. Check your school schedule if you have class on Saturdays.

Weekday Schedule
7:00-7:30 wake up
8:00-8:30 grab breakfast either in the dining hall or coffee spot (I think some schools do check in a breakfast)
8:30 -9:30 First class
9:30-10:30 Second class or free period for coffee
10:30 - 11:30 Class or meeting
12:15 to 1:15 Lunch
1:15 - 2:15 Class
2:15 -3:15 Class or Free period
4:00 - 5:30 Sports
6:00 - 6:45 Dinner
7:30 - 9:30 or 10:00 Study Time
10:00 - 10:30 Hang out time in dorm, “Feeds” or dorm get together
10:30 -11:00 Lights out for underclassmen at many schools

Weekends:

Friday night: Fun events scheduled at schools or some kids just hang out with friends

Saturday morning classes from 8:30 - 11:30 or noon.
Saturday afternoon - sports
Saturday night - social event, sporting event, performing arts event

Sunday - Study time most of the day
Sunday Afternoon - special events or club activities
Sunday evening - some clubs meet, teacher seminars/hours

Schools may differ. DS has study hall every Friday night, but there is often some kind of scheduled social/fun activity before or after study hall on Fridays. He also has study hall Sunday night, leaving Sundays generally free for shopping or other trips, outside sports, or just relaxing. Your class schedule will vary day-to-day with various fee periods or “X blocks” mixed in, when clubs meet, teachers have office hours, you can take a music lesson, do homework, etc.

At Thacher, freshmen add early morning mucking to the general boarding school routine as they are each in charge of looking after a horse, including mucking, feeding, and grooming. There is also horseback riding nearly every day freshman year.

Saturday nights are typically spent at the Head of School’s house. The extroverts can be found right outside dancing, singing karaoke, or playing ping pong, while the introverts tend to bake cookies, play board games, work on puzzles or crafts, or just chat. For many kids, it is the highlight of the week. Pretty much EVERYONE attends.

@CaliMex that sounds like a lovely Saturday night. Although I think I’d get exhausted as the head of school, parenting that many kids every Saturday!
