I'm from NJ and I got into the pharm program at RU and the pre-admit pharm program at U Mich ... 50k is a serious stretch for me but I want to go to U Mich very badly .. and I don't want to go to Rutgers at all ... should I go to U Mich or RU? RU guarantees a spot in the pharm school, whereas at U Mich I would need to submit the PharmCAS and take the PCATS .. The only way I would pay for it is through loans .. so I don't know if it's worth comprimising my family's financial situation .. What do you think?

I am in the exact same situation you are in… except that I live in PA so I would have to pay out of state tuition at Rutgers. personally, I have always wanted to go to Michigan and I would totally go there if the program weren’t 7 years and the pcats But, not going to Michigan might kill me… like I’m worried i will regret not going to UMich for the rest of my life if i choose to go to Rutgers because I have been so set on going to Michigan for a long time.
I’m worried that if I go to to UMich, I won’t be able to stay in the preferred admission program or be able to score in the 70th percentile on the pcats. and it’s also just a hassle to study for them. But Michigan’s pharmacy school is ranked so much higher than Rutgers, so i’m almost just considering going there (ranked higher, huge wolverines fan, dream school, and if i choose to change my major… it would be better to do it at michigan because its a better school overall.)

But rutgers… I visited there this past monday and it wasn’t too bad. I felt out of place a bit but when i entered the pharm building, i felt more at home. and i talked to a pharm student and she was telling me about why she chose rutgers and about the pharm program there in general and it kind of made me want to go there. like despite the lower rank, rutgers is still a good pharm school and the classes are still hard. but it would be so convenient to not take pcats and not have to apply…

I’m sorry my reply probably isn’t going to help at all, but I’m in the same boat as you and I have absolutely no idea what to do. we only have about a week to decide… what school are you leaning more towards?

Pharmacy at Michigan is pretty highly regarded, about the same as Ross is in business actually. Do come here is what I say.
