<p>I have two kids who went/go to Alabama…both rec’d large scholarships.</p>
<p>Son 1 NMF…4.0/4.8 GPA and high test scores…nearly a full ride for being a NMF.</p>
<p>Son 2 don’t remember exact…about…SAT 2280 (not superscore). GPA 4.0/4.6…
got full tuition scholarship plus 2500 per year</p>
<p>Bama has assured scholarships for stats…if you have a SAT 1400+ math and CR…or a 32 ACT, and a 3.5 GPA, then you get full tuition. </p>
<p>Students are awarded thei scholarships right after acceptance.</p>
<p>Did you apply to Bama? if not, it’s too late to qualify for scholarships…deadline was Dec 1.</p>

<p>If you missed application deadlines, you might want to consider a gap year and apply next year. I know that you’re the student who won’t qualify for aid, but your parents can’t pay anything…so you are thinking about taking out big loans to pay for all four years of college …bad idea.</p>
<p>You’d be better off taking a gap year…don’t take any classes during that time…work and save money…and reapply next year to schools that will give you large merit for stats.</p>

<p>From where? Alabama? the only scholarships Bama awards “months after” acceptance are the random ones by depts, special groups, or some “extra” university ones that are awarded to students who nearly made the req’ts (if the university has extras to award).</p>
<p>The assured scholarships are awarded shortly after acceptance…usually within days. </p>
<p>If these students were accepted to Bama last year, then they either aren’t remembering correctly or their stats weren’t high enough for assured scholarships.</p>
<p>I know it was not directly after their acceptance because I remember when they were accepted and when they told me they received their scholarship. It was not a full tuition scholarship, but a grant none the less.</p>
<p>Grants are different…those are need-based.</p>
<p>If they were scholarships, then it sounds like they got one of left-over competitive scholarships. they had to have applied before Dec 1st though.</p>

<p>“It is now almost mid-February and I am sure many of you are making a short list of schools you are deciding amongst to attend in the fall. I hope UA is at the top of the list! For those waiting, Scholarship letters go out in mid-March and Financial Aid letters go out mid-April.”</p>
<p>Kentucky is a very mediocre- scholarship or not, just seeing their fans and students at basketball games, despite the academics lacking, would send me screaming from Lexington.</p>

<p>Now I understand the confusion…</p>
<p>Bama awards scholarships (by letter) right after acceptance, but then sends out a “formal award” with an acceptance deadline in the early spring. </p>
<p>Believe me, I KNOW THIS, the students are informed by letter right after acceptance about their assured scholarship awards. The confirmation letters (for accepting the awards) go out in the spring and those might include the remaining competitive awards.</p>
<p>If you don’t believe me, go on over to the Bama forum here and ask when this year’s applicants rec’d their initial scholarship letters.</p>
<p>Did you apply before Dec 1st and submit a scholarship app? Were your scores and 3.5 reached before the deadlines (Nov SAT and GPA before senior year). If so, then you should have been awarded a small scholarship. And, perhaps you might be awarded some additional competitive merit.</p>
<p>However, if your SAT is from a Dec test or your 3.5 GPA was reached by including your senior year grades, then you wouldn’t qualify for an assured scholarship.</p>
<p>I had a 3.5 when I submitted the app before december first, without senior grades, SAT alike, but no scholarship, and yes I did fill out the scholarship app. I was only first allowed to fill it out after my acceptance…</p>
<p>paarty- my son received his scholarship letters a few weeks after each of the SAT/ACT tests were uploaded to their system. The main college scholarship office sends a letter seperate from the engineering department. I would assume most of the departments send their letters seperately. The Engineernig department lagged a few weeks behind the main scholarship office. </p>
<p>So yes, there was a few weeks after his acceptance that the scholarship letter came. </p>
<p>That is just the “eligible” letter, stating which guaranteed scholarship he is eligible for based on his stats. The “official” letter is not due out until this spring, and I understand that any additional department or specialty scholarships will be announced in the spring as well. </p>
