U of Arizona Engineering vs. more well known schools?

I am a senior in high school from Maryland, and I am applying to a bunch of big state schools that are well known for engineering, such as Maryland, Virginia Tech, and Purdue. University of Arizona just sent me a letter saying that they would give me an almost-full scholarship if I applied, as I am a National Hispanic Scholar. Should I bother to apply? It seems like a good school, and the money is appealing, but its really far away, and if the engineering program isn't that great, I don't really want to waste $50. Does anyone have any experience with U of A engineering?

Contact the school and ask for a free app…some will do that for National scholars.

Most big state schools with engineering are going to have good eng’g programs. Yes, it’s far away, but if the merit is big enough, it will more than justify the cost for transportation.

Purdue may likely expect you to pay full OOS costs…or close to it. …so might VT.

Questions to ask yourself:

How big is the net cost difference between Arizona with scholarship, Maryland (in-state public; financial aid and scholarships?), and other schools, and how much of a concern is cost to you and your parents?

Does the Arizona scholarship require a high college GPA to keep?

Would you prefer to work in Arizona or Maryland, or some other place?
