"my only concern is about the weather...my skin is very sensitive to the sun and i'm not sure i would be able to stand the hot deseert weather."

It's a no-brainer. Go to Oregon.

Again, it is not that hot here. Only for two months does it go above the 90-100 degree mark, and that's during the summer months, when you probably won't be around here anyways. You get used to it.

The average temperature during the rest of the year is 60-70. Better weather than most other places.

However, it's sunny basically every day of spring/summer and some of the fall, winter has more overcast days, but if the sun is an issue, arizona might not be your best choice.

My brother is basically an Irish Albino with glow-in-the-dark white skin. No joke. His skin hasn't seen the sun in about 10 years. While he didn't mind living near ASU (its hot and sunny, but you learn to manage very quickly-- we actually lived in Minnesota until middle school), he does like Tucson a lot better. It actually gets a bit of the seasons. He even experienced a few snow storms this year and they get a fair amount of rain. He's told me countless stories of basically body-boarding on trash bags attatched to trucks, being pulled through the flooded streets! Tempe got a teeny bit of snow, but that happens like once every five years so don't count on it. If you're truly worried about the I'd say choose Tucson, but honestly, ASU's weather is only unbearable for a few months each year. And there are always the pools to counter-act the affect, plus the nearby Tempe Town Lake :)

It rained today!

pateta00- I posted this in another thread

Academics- UofA- in some programs, ASU is better than UofA, but in terms of academic reputation as a whole, UofA is superior. ASU lets in almost everyone who applies but makes it difficult to get into certain programs once you are at the school. UofA is quite a bit more selective, but not nearly as difficult to get into the top programs. At ASU, you often have lower division classes with 600 people! If you are in the honors program, you would probably not be in classes of this size.
Campus: UofA- I liked both campuses, but UofA’s older brick buildings are very nice. They make you feel as though you are at a college with a lot of history. The facilities at both schools are outstanding. Both campuses are big, but ASU is huge (on almost 600 acres of land!)
Weather- UofA- at their hottest, there is still a noticeable difference between the two schools in terms of weather. Tucson is about 10 degrees “cooler” than Tempe.
Sports- UofA- there’s no doubt about it that UofA excels in basketball and has an improving football team. ASU’s basketball team is terrible, but their football team was pretty good this year (better than UofA’s)
People (I’ll divide this one into two categories)
Looks- ASU- the girl’s at ASU are the hottest I’ve seen at a college; they are even better looking than the ones at San Diego State. The girls at UofA are also excellent, but really can’t compare to the ones at ASU. The ugliest girl at ASU would be the hottest at University of Chicago or MIT.
Brains- UofA- while there are some who go to ASU for its excellent honors programs and generous scholarship offers, there are quite a few dolts at ASU. The students as a whole are more academically oriented at UofA. The mentality at UofA is “work hard, play hard”. There are people at ASU who think the reason they are going to school is to tan and get drunk every night.
Town- Tempe (ASU)- ASU wins in a landslide here. Tempe is one of the coolest college towns around. You are only about 10 miles (15 minute drive from Phoenix). There are so much to do in Tempe; great shopping, restaurants, bars – everything. Tucson is pretty much a dump. Right next to campus, there is 4th street which is where all the bars are located, but other than that, it’s not a college town at all. There is a lot to do on campus at both schools, but you don’t have a lot of outside options in Tucson. The restaurants are quite good in Tucson, but that’s about it. The police are really cracking down on off campus house parties at UofA, even using helicopters to find and break up parties.

You also have to consider the size of both campuses and the amount of personal attention you’ll be receiving. UofA has about 28,000 undergraduates, while ASU has about 51,000.

Both have their positives and negatives. I’ll leave it up to you to decide which school you like better. I would have seriously considered going to ASU if it wasn’t so big. As it is, I didn’t end up applying, but did apply to UofA.

"At ASU, you often have lower division classes with 600 people!"
"There are people at ASU who think the reason they are going to school is to tan and get drunk every night."

It is the exact same at UofA

Although there are far more students at ASU, there are far more faculty members, making the class ratio between the schools about the same.

And trust me, there are just as many duds at UofA, in proportion to the size.

You can't compare the two, they are pretty much THE SAME, off on the rankings by 5-10, which means NOTHING.

You really just have to visit both, see what you like.

pateta00- so have you made your decision?

Well i?m not going to any of these schools...

Oh really, where are you going and why did you decide to eliminate these schools?

hello my friend...I have decided (weel i knew that since i was a child) that i want to be involved with the entertainment industry world...so i thinking in majoring in buss. whith focus on entertainment and doing a minor in film or communication...because connections are very important in this field i though that it would be wise to study at california , florida or NY.So now i?m trying to figure it out what school to go.i can?t go to any UC?s because of deadline(can?t apply anymore) i was accepted to USC but family says it?s too much $$.Now i?m looking at CUNY in NY , FSU, Cal state and SDSU .I know that FSU has an awesome film department but they don?t have entertainment bus. and the film department is more focused on production...
Botton line i?m f*** up....if you have any ideias please tell me.

FSU is a good school if you want to stay in Florida.

I guess it really depends on your grades. Did USC not offer any financial aid? They are usually good in that department. I believe that Long Beach State has a good film school; Steven Spielberg went there. Apply for every scholarship available at USC; they have an outstanding film school.

Good luck.

pateta00, sorry USC didn't work out, but as for you other choices, I think you should be fine. CUNY in NY is a horrible school, so cross that off your list.

Honestly go to either SDSU or FSU. SDSU's top 2 programs are business and communications, and it has a pretty strong reputation in SoCal. As for FSU, it has a strong rep in florida, so finding a job anywhere in florida should be easy. So getting an entertainment job down in Miami or something should be easy.

Good luck.

"guess it really depends on your grades. Did USC not offer any financial aid?"No there is no financial aid for international students , only scholarship but only for the top students(not my case).
IS SDSU a prestigious school?i know that FSU is a very well regarded school(it is famous even here in Brazil) but what bother?s me is it?s location(tallahasse seens like a terrible city) plus it?s far away from miami and orlando were all the "action" is.
Hey Socal18 have you decided which school you gonna go?I?ve seen that just like me you too are struggling to find the right college..

Well I'm only a junior, so I got another year to figure everything out, but yah, making the perfect college list is tough work.

As for SDSU, it definitely wouldn't be considered "prestigious," but it does have great connections in the Socal area, especially San Diego....and San Diego is one amazing place.

I would give it another look.

SOcal i envy you so much...men you are very young!!!have you taken the SAT?are you considering any UC?s?tell me which schools you are consifering...How do you like california?do you live in LA?

Well I took the SAT in March, and I'm waiting on my results. I plan to take it two more times. As for UC's, I'm only considering UCSB. I don't really like any of the other schools. UCLA is okay, but I can't get in, and I like UCSB better anyways.

California is amazing. I live in Southern California, and LA and San Diego are by far my favorite cities. They offer so much, and the beaches are great.

Right now my list is...

University of Miami

UC Santa Barbara

Univ. of San Diego

Loyola Marymount

San Diego State

Arizona State

Also, good luck with your decision.

"UCLA is okay, but I can't get in"why not....i think you should try...
what about UCSD??since you like san diego...do you like LMU?I heard so many bad comments that i gave up on it...Have you heard of chapman university?it supposed to be good.
Anyways good luck for you too and don?t worry yourself too much and enjoy california(daaammmiiitt i wanna go to cali so bad.....).
hangloose!!!
