Just wonder which of these universities are best for Computer Science for my son. No preference of urban or sub-urban or rural. Mainly looking for Acadamic strength and strong internship and placement opportunities.
Thanks,
VK

I would say U of H or Tech. We have friends who are CS majors at Tech and are getting good internships. It has a very strong alumni base that helps with internships and placements. U of H has the Houston area to draw on so lots of CS internships there also.
Thank you @momocarly ! This is helpful. I have been reading several posts from several threads related to this same topic. As UTA and UTSA also have some great CS programs similar to UH and Tech and I couldn’t get to a conclusion based on reading those other posts and I wanted to get the opinions before deciding which B or C level university is best for CS in Texas.
FYI - UTSA has one of the top cybersecurity programs in the nation. Depending on what your CS interest is, you may want to consider UTSA.
Thank you @JazzyTXMom ! My son looks like showing interest in artificial intelligence, machine learning and digital apps, but he is not 100% sure untill he enters freshman year and explore more tracks…
I would also suggest looking at UT Dallas which is very strong in CS and aggressively building their program.
Hi @fwtxmom, my son didn’t yet get admitted to UTD, chances are very thin. So, I removed UTD, TAMU, and UT from our list for now.
Well good luck @VenuKomandur !
All are strong schools
Which vibe he likes the most and which is most affordable is most important really
Internships really depend a lot on what city you’re in, but it’s not a requirement to get a tech job. Houston and DFW are safe bets for internship opportunities. If he has an interest in cyber security, UTSA is a top program with a virtually 100% job placement. Another underrated program is Texas State. It’s in a fairly commutable distance between Austin and San Antonio, which doubles internship prospects and job opportunities.
All are good, neither is great. I suggest go with most affordable option.
UH is trending up, has greater Houston area for internships and will hold tuition flat if you agree to graduate in four years or less. Very focused on graduating people. 8000 people live in campus as well.
