U of I transfer to UW- Nursing

I am a resident of Idaho and I will graduate high school this June. I applied to University of Washington and since OOS costs is really expensive, I made a plan that could save me money. I’m thinking about going to University of Idaho for the first two years and finish my pre-requisites for nursing there then I will apply as a transfer student to University of Washington to their nursing program. University of Idaho doesn’t have a nursing program so I would have to transfer somewhere else anyways and I really want to go to UW. How easy is it to transfer to UW? I think I read somewhere that your chances are higher if your school doesn’t have a program for your major.

I forgot to mention that I would be transferring to the Seattle campus.

Transferring to UW from 4 year university is really hard. I recommend to go to community college in Washington state to get AA then transfer to UW.

Nursing is a very competitive major. If you can find any school that gives you a guaranteed spot in nursing from freshman year and get in there, it will save you a ton of stress.

Your chances of transferring for nursing specifically are very slim due to the fact that it’s an oversubscribed major and in-state transfers would be ahead of you in line.

If you start at a school that does not have a nursing or pre-nursing program, you may have a hard time getting your medical volunteer hours and your nursing-specific prerequisite classes. Nursing is not a major where you can just take ‘general education’ and be fine to transfer.

If you really want to go out of state, look at WUE. I know Arizona and New Mexico have nursing programs open to WUE students.

My best friend’s daughter was studying at the UDub and couldn’t get into the Nursing Major after two years. She had to leave and attend a small private Christian college in Kirkland, WA to go to nursing school. Initially she was very disappointed but the program turned out to be great and as there was less competition compared to the UDub she got lots of local experience. After graduating she was immediately offered a job at the UDub Medical Center in their intensive care unit and also Children’s Hospital in Seattle in the PICU and she chose Children’s. She absolutely loves her job.
