I feel your pain! I am also anticipating my U of M decision. I’m OOS from MD. Our GPA’s and extracurriculars are very similar, but your test score is a bit higher than mine. I also have legacy but I would only be 2nd generation. Personally, I’m expecting a deferral, but I definitely think you have a great shot (especially with your test score)! If I were to take a guess I think that you have about 60-70% chance of acceptance and 30-40% chance of deferral; I think the odds of you getting flat out rejected are very low. Please take this with a grain of salt though, I’m only a high school senior myself. I wish you the best of luck!
It is so stressful when you are in the range of their stats! Best of luck to you too and I appreciate you responding!
Stats /grades look good. As you know OOS is tough. But as you know your inline with what they are looking for. Good Luck
@Knowsstuff Obviously you don’t have a real answer, but any guesses on my deferral/acceptance/rejected chances?
What major?
Last year my son applied EA from OOS VA for engineering. He had a 3.98uw, ranked 1st in his class, same amount of APs, little lower test scores, completed math through DiffEQ, NASA research mentorship, heavy choir and theater ECs, +300 hrs community service. He was deferred and then strung along until he was waitlisted in April. By that time he had been accepted to Ga Tech, which was higher on his list, so he didn’t accept the w/l.
So saying you have a 60-70% chance for acceptance EA from OOS is too high.
No to rejection. It’s a flip of a coin with acceptance vs deferred. GPA and rigor is what they look for. Then a great essay puts you in the plus column. As you know, the answer is coming soon. Get some sleep…
@racereer I’m a female applying as a physics major in LSA. I’m sorry about your son, their engineering is insanely competitive
LSA Physics and Female will improve your chances. I agree with Knowsstuff that you won’t see a rejection EA. From what I remember very few rejection were give out EA.
I think my son would of still ended up at GT even if he had got an UofM acceptance outright. So no worries.
@racereer. Flipside to your story. My son was wait listed by Georgia Tech but accepted by Michigan. He is in engineering, OOS. . Can’t really go wrong with either.
I was accepted!!!
@notarobot12… That’s awesome. Congratulations!! ???
