im going into mechanical engineering & cant really decide between the two. i got int both.
for me it comes down to which has a good engineering education balanced with a great music scene. because i dont want to do engineering my whole life. i just want to use it an initial stable career, then i eventually want to open up some kind of music franchise. lol.

While UW may be the better mechanical engineering choice, but when balanced with music scene and what you want to achieve later on in life, U of M is the obvious choice. The Twin Cities have so many more places for bands to play and just overall has a better culture.

This is coming from someone then got into both schools for business and who lives near Madison. I chose Minnesota for my own reasons, but really in your situation you can’t be the University of Minnesota or the Twin Cities in general (jobs for engineers and an amazing music scene).

Minneapolis obviously has a better music scene, but that is a stupid reason to make your college choice. Especially if you are going to be in engineering.

The Twin Cities also have much more jobs to offer obviously, but a UW-Madison degree will do you fine in Minneapolis and get you quite a bit further on the coasts, especially areas like NY/Boston/SF.

But make your choice based upon which you feel “fits” better.

I currently take classes at the U of M for PSEO.

however, next year i’m going to madison because it is further away from home.
i was kind of disapointed when i visted madison’s campus.
Overall minnesota’s campus is like 298374 times nicer and the music scene is i’m guessing is a lot bigger there too… because there’s a lot more people.

How can you compare a campus with miles of lakefront and lots of greenspace to an Urban campus on a river? Hardly anyone finds Uminn to have a nicer campus overall than UW.

I’ve been to UMN many times and I don’t see how anyone could find their better, especially enough to inject such hyperbole in the comparison. Madison’s campus is way, way more organized, walkable, and green… and its getting better every year.

i think UMN costs a few thousand less than 28k~~
and i like urban campus.
lack of green space? come on, that’s the nature of urban campus.
u r in the city and close to everything. and no need for a car.
