I am an international student and have to pay almost same tuition for both school, (over $40,000-) and I am interesting in engineering. Your opinions PLEASE!!!

what's ur intended major?

as international I think it's more fair for u to go to CMU since every student regardless of citizenship/residency pays the same tuition (unless they receive scholarship) otherwise at michigan you'll see some folks pay 1/3 of your tuition and still receive the same education.... sometimes it doesnt feel good on your side

michigan, cmu is more known for computer engineering/science, and to some extent business, umich is arguably the best state school in the nation(in my opinon better than cal because of its excellent business program)

Berkeley also has one of the best business school in the nation.

I wish I had time to write up my infamously long response but I'm leaving for vacation in, well - 5 minutes :D

You REALLY need to consider quality of life at both of these schools. Carnegie is the complete opposite of U of M, I'm sure you know this already though. I had 3 close friends visit Carnegie and they said the city was awesome... but the school, absolutely could not stand it. Two of them said they would rather have gone to Pitt then Carnegie because the atmosphere was just heart wrenching there. One of my friends that is a girl, visited both GA Tech and CMU and said that the environments were very similar (around campus). If you're looking for a college experience in the least bit... I wouldn't even consider CMU. CMU takes care of business, which is why their post-graduation employment rate is one of the best in the nation. They have great research and co-op work but this again makes CMU very, well "businessy" and makes them lack in the social/college-experience department.

I considered applying to CMU, but I decided (after reading about it a lot and talking to many students that had gone there from my school) that it just wasn't right for me. That may not be the case for you, I mean I'm a very diligent student and I work hard.. but I value greatly the staying very connected to the "real world" for a lack of a better word.... and enjoying life. I mean we're going to college for an education, BUT in the long run, we're getting an education so we can do what we want to and love to do in LIFE. I find it's important to not lose track of that connection to life and enjoyment and fall solely in the focus on "school". Anyway... now that I'm REALLY late :D I'll get to the point. U Mich and CMU are both extremely well respected and strong schools... CMU WILL challenge you, maybe a little more than U of M would, and it will guarantee you opportunities after college. U of M will give you a well respected degree, the opportunity to change your major and still be in a top 10 ranked program in anything you desire, offers an AMAZINGLY large and strong network for post collegiate pursuits and will give you a more "social" experience. It depends on what you find more attracting... I find that U of M has the correct balance of school, opportunities and "life". Others may disagree....

What's more important to you...? and when you hear the descriptions of these schools, which one do you say "hey, that's totally me!"?

I have to cut this now :D good luck! Sorry about spelling/ grammatical errors...
