U of Minnesota CLA or ASU W.P Carey Business School

I intend on majoring in business, I was accepted to the U of M but not into the Carlson School of Managment. I live in MN. I have heard that it is difficult transferring into Carlson. I was directly admitted into the business school at ASU. I was given a large scholarship that makes ASU the less expensive option. I have 11 day’s until I have to make a decision. I understand that the U of M is the higher rated school but I wasn’t accepted into the school that I wanted to. I would love to hear people advice. Do I take the risk at the U of M or not?

If you are really interested in a business degree, then I would go to ASU. It is highly regarded. CSOM is nice, but being an econ major or whatever you are planning is not the same as studying business.

Is ASU affordable?
Did you get Barrett (Honors)?
What would you major in at UMN?

@MYOS1634 I was given a $12,500 scholarship each year, this makes the tuition at ASU $13,000 and UMN’s tuition to be about $15,000. I was not accepted into Barrett and if I went to the UMN I would work towards an economics degree with the hope of transferring into Carlson where I would want to major in finance.

UMN is better than ASU if you don’t have Barrett: in the past couple years, cuts have made the general ASU undergraduate experience outside of Barrett much lower-quality (online classes, very large classes even for writing or what used to be seminars). The State of MN, on the other hand, has invested in its university, and has made UMN a higher-level university even for students not in the honors program. If you can’t get into Carlson, look at transferring in Agribusiness in CFANS, it’s highly sought after by many companies.

Note that you could go to ASU, do well, and try to transfer to UMN.
But I also agree with MYOS, Applied Econ is a great undergrad program on the Saint Paul campus. Small classes taught by faculty, many of whom have won teaching awards.
