I got in from the waitlist on 4/23!! Ironically, I did not notice my regular decision and replied to be on the waitlist after a month. Good luck to those who are still waiting!!
@crabbymum - Was CWRU his first choice?
My son was admitted to Rochester but has decided to go to UC Davis instead, he visited and weather was a big factor, all the best to wait listed students. It was hard for us to convince a CA born kid to choose that college. We had to honor his decision as a final one and we have started the process with UC Davis.
For those who are attending UofR, did amy id the parents receive an invite from Parent Advisor to meet and discuss Parents Group and involvement at UofR?
@soledad2022 – No. I haven’t heard much at all from the school since my S committed in April,
@soledad2022 I haven’t received anything either. And @bellcom we’ve heard little as well. URoch has been the most incommunicative school of all the ones my dd applied to. Has anyone received info on what their payments will be and when they are due? I called a couple of weeks ago and they said, “You should hear soon.” Helpful. And two weeks later, still nothing. Though we did receive some crucial information on what to do in the Rochester area, lol.
@taverngirl: I believe UR sends out the first bill in mid-July, due in mid-Aug.
At first, I found UR to be somewhat muted on their communication with parents. It’s definitely an adjustment from HS. They also seemed somewhat lax on their guidance, i.e., to assure your child is signing up for the right classes and is on track to satisfy major requirements, etc.
But over time, I just realized that they expect the student to take care of themselves and they are there if needed. I have since come to appreciate this approach.
My perception anyway.
Interestingly, the Parent Program coordinator called us and came to meet us. Maybe this is a new program this year.
Seems like he was very good I’m.suppprtimg parents. Maybe they want more donation from us.
Anyone know when roommate assignments are mailed?
@senior14548 dd got her roommate selection and room/dorm info yesterday.
Totally agree with @ekdad212 We’ve seen the same thing with Rochester exactly. They tend to let the student (or parent) take the lead. They’re responsive but they definitely let the individual guide their own course as much as possible. So, if you have a question or need help, you’ll have to be proactive. Not an entirely bad life-skill to learn.
I noticed the same thing with Rochester and our son too. It is also a good thing for him to figure things out and manage everything as it will eventually be up to them to do this as they progress through U of R, seek internal jobs, internships, outside jobs and/or grad school.
Agreed! It is good for the kids to stumble, fall, and learn through this. My son already missed his emails for enrolment process as he is not used to emails (only snapchat and imessage culture); this helped him to check his UR emails regularly and now he is taking actions on his own - really good to see the kid take responsibility :0)
I think colleges produced “better” adults (better for the work force, etc) when pretty much all of them required the student to do things for themselves with expectations rather than continuing the hand holding of elementary school.
well said Creekland
Having some initiative is especially important at a place like UR, where research opportunities are plentiful.
I would strongly recommend incoming undergrads to consider and pursue research in whatever field you are studying or find interesting. I believe UR is one of the smallest Tier 1 research universities in the country, with a culture of following your interests, so the opportunities are there. Even if you currently don’t have plans for grad school, research can be enriching, help make academic connections, and open doors in ways that you may not perceive.
Any international students doing the IBDP program who did not receive the IB Diploma scholarship?
Merit Scholarships should be showing up on your portals !!!
Can anyone who applied ED2 after applying as a Priority Applicant for Fall 2018 tell me about when they submitted their ED2 form and when they got the reply?
