Just dropping in to read and congratulate those with acceptances. Parent of a happy alum here (who’s currently in med school). Sometimes it’s tough to “leave” when so much of my extended life has been somewhere. (My guy did Take 5, so we had 5 years of enjoying UR.)
Of course, he’s just across the street at their med school now…
@MomOutWest my daughter is a sophomore at U of R and my son was just accepted for the class of 2022. I cannot express enough how absolutely wonderful U of R is. My daughter absolutely loves it. The teachers are great. Many of the classes are small so student really can get to know professors. The student body is incredibly diverse, interesting, passionate and welcoming. Rochester, in spite of the cold, is a very interesting city with some great restaurants and museums. There are also many outdoor activities - hiking, skiing, etc. For those that are interested, Greek Life is there but it is not overwhelming. My daughter did join a sorority and it has become a second family to her. If you daughter chooses to attend, she will have a great 4 years and meet many wonderful people!
Like some other parents, I’m dropping in to congratulate future Yellowjackets! My son is a senior and has loved his time at UR. I remember at the accepted students tour he was still undecided and the tour guide asked “Who’s tired of taking courses like foreign language that you don’t care about?” Well, that was it for him - he was hooked!
Best wishes for all incoming freshman - enjoy the ride and get involved!
For those still waiting to hear - good luck. And for those who get rejected - I know it’s tough to see all the accepted students congratulate each other, but there are plenty of other good schools out there and your time in college is really what you make of it, so brush off the disappointment and get at it!
@ready4college!! She has about a 4.3 weighted, 3.9 unweighted GPA, highly competitive high school, lots of APs, 1540 sats. The scholarship she was awarded mentioned academics as well as her involvement in the arts… she is highly involved in theater and music. When she interviewed, the entire interview was about her theater involvement… looks like they put emphasis on the whole picture! We are so very greatful!
Anyone know what the range is? The website says merit is from $2k to full tuition, but is there an “average” amount?
My friend’s son just got $8,000 per year. Was hoping for more.
There are definitely more scholarships! I am a student accepted ED2 and received the Rochester promise scholarship for $25,000. They have the deans scholarship etc… which are worth a lot more!
Sure! unweighted GPA 4.0, weighted 4.5, average SAT scores, Top 5% of my class, Honors recognition including being apart of honor’s society at my school as well. Sports such as lacrosse and cheerleading. I was also selected for the national academy of future physicians and medical scientists award. What I learned about the process of receiving a scholarship, is that it’s more than one person looking at yourself as an individual and more than one can receive the same scholarship! You receive notification of merit-aid 2-3 after your acceptance date; it’s emailed to you and on your Myroc.
