I know it’s natural to wonder why, but you can’t apply normal logic here… obviously this is some twisted individual, either mentally ill or just temporarily warped. It takes a break with reality to do something like this. Taking herself out wouldn’t be enough, she had to make everyone else suffer… there is no making sense of it.
Will be very interested to hear what her husband’s role in this is. Also, of course I have nothing to back this up, but I think its highly unusual for a woman to do this kind of thing.

^^^

It is VERY unusual for a woman to kill non-relatives. VERY.

Thought so -
Now I heard (on CNN) that apparently her husband held the door open for her as she went in and shot everyone. This is not making any sense unless they planned on killing themselves afterwards and screwed that up.

My kids’ former high school called and said that my one friend’s husband is out of surgery and is in intensive care. Hopefully, there won’t be any complications and he’ll have a full recovery. Thankfully, Huntsville hospital is a trauma hospital.

I’m relieved to learn that my other friend’s husband was not shot (both friends’ husbands were present at the meeting).

It sounds like the dept head, a female prof, and another woman were killed, but I’m not sure if the second woman is also a prof or a staff member. The whole thing is just devastating to these people’s families.

I am so sorry, mom. Will keep your family and your community in our prayers.

mom2ck: Really sorry to hear about your friends! I will be praying for all of them.

My nephew is in the suspected shooter’s class this semester and my sister-in-law works for Financial Aid at UAH. They are really shaken up tonight! All UAH classes, events, etc. have been canceled next week.

The shooter had really good reviews on the ratings website. Some bad things were posted tonight, but they were removed.

I imagine that schools across this country are now going to delay giving such news (denial of tenure) at the end of the day on Friday to reduce the risk. At least then the person has the weekend to calm down.

Giving this prof the news this morning gave her enough time to return this afternoon to a faculty meeting of “sitting ducks.”

Just found this thread. My prayers are with you and your friends, Mom2kids. Is your son at the university? How are the students holding up?

Just saw the news this morning. So sad. M2CK: hope your friend’s husband is improving. I can’t imagine the horror of being that meeting. Not what you expect when you enter a career in academia.

Just saw the news. I can’t say how badly I feel for all involved. My prayers go out to all the families of those killed and injured. Also to the entire school, students, staff and families. My son, a junior in HS, has been looking at UA-Huntsville as an option. Hate the impression this will leave on him and on other students considering this school. Intellectually, I know this could have happened anywhere – but that doesn’t help me feel better knowing that it could be at a school where one of my kids could be attending.
Mom2collegekids: hope your friend’s husband comes out of this OK. I have to say reading your posts have opened our eyes and our minds to schools that we would not have considered before, thanks for your service to all the parents and students on this forum.

Friend’s h is in ICU.

Mrscollege…this isn’t the campus that my kids are at. My kids are at UA, in Tuscaloosa. UAHuntsville is by my home.

Yes this could happen anywhere. I heard she had tried to get the uah pres and others fired. That’s not what you do when you are up for tenure.

Each time a shooting on a college campus occurs, it brings back the horrible tragedy experienced in April, 2007 at Virginia Tech, as it is very personal to me and my children. (I lost a former student and my son a very dear friend that day)

Our hearts and prayers go out to the UA Huntsville community.

^^^

Oh how awful!

Now we know that Dr. Amy Bishop shot and killed her brother about 20 years ago, but it was ruled “an accident.” (hence, no employer could really consider it an issue - if it could even have been really known - which it sounds like it could not have been found.)

Now, the current police chief (in Mass.) believes that there may have been a cover-up. It is now being reported that that shooting was the result of an argument between the brother and sister.

It sounds like a “story” was provided to protect Amy and to prevent her from being charged. The records that surround this case “disappeared” shortly after the event. Very suspicious!

Another report says that Amy is the mother of 4 children!

She is a Harvard grad, but I don’t know where she went for undergrad.

My friend’s H is still in critical condition. He was shot in the neck with a 9mm gun.

more to above…

Now, it’s sounding like the husband wasn’t there during the shooting. But, she called him after the shooting to have him pick her up. (he works at UAH, also).

Amy was sitting in the meeting for about 30 minutes before she pulled out the gun and started shooting.

We’re getting more details as time goes on.

M2K

Our thoughts and prayers are with your friend’s husband and all those effected by this tragedy.

Thanks…

We’re still waiting to find out if he can fully recover or it there will be any permanent damage.

mom, we’re thinking of you during this trying time. keeping your family and friends in our prayers.

My son was a freshman at VT when the shootings happened. I started hearing the reports on the TV that morning and have never felt such fear in all my life. Thank God, my son answered his cell on my first attempt. (Often he didn’t have service due to those Hokie Stone dorms). He didn’t even know what was going on until I told him. These things aren’t supposed to happen on college campuses. I am so sorry for those of you who know someone involved in this tragedy. It sure brings back some terrible memories…

^ These things shouldn’t be happening anywhere =/
