UA to hold stadium celebration Saturday for the Tide's BCS national championship

Isn’t Capstone Scholars’ Day this weekend?

Looks like attendees will get a bonus serving of Gameday atmosphere!

No word on the Bryant Conference Center/Moody Music Center parking lot, but common sense would dictate that this lot will be reserved for CSD attendees. Common sense, however, often gets thrown out when dealing with football here. One of you moms should call one of your contacts to see how this will affect Scholars’ Day.

Oh, crud, crud, crud. Glad I made my hotel reservations already. Thanks for the heads up. Thank goodness Capstone starts early, but we probably should all allow for extra time getting there.

Thanks for the links, feenotype. I’m confused about street closings, though. If you scroll down, there is info about traffic on gameday. Is that what we should use as a guide for what streets will be closed and how to enter and exit the campus on Saturday?

I don’t think so. Roads on campus won’t close until 11am, so you’ll be fine.

It also looks like you’ll be leaving Capstone at the time the event is going on, so you’ll be fine then as well.

I think we might be doing tours when the event is going on or being dismissed, so I’m worried that might put a damper on our opportunity for tours.

I hope we do get the more academic focused Capstone event we’re hoping for and that
these honor students and their parents don’t dismiss Bama as just a football school and not serious about academics.

hopefully all the students and parents attending capstone will realize that winning the BCS championship is a big deal. any school would have a big celebration for such an accomplishment. if alabama celebrating the big win is a turnoff for someone, then maybe alabama really isn’t the right place for him/her.

Every school that wins a National Championship makes a big deal out of it. It’s not fair if someone thinks badly of Alabama for celebrating, when they wouldn’t think twice if USC, UTexas, or UMich had a similar celebration - which they would.

Montegut…

Are you staying over on Friday night? Saturday night? or both.

This shouldn’t change the presentation.

It might be a good idea to call Jami today and find out how this will affect the post-CSDay tours.

Oh how awesome! Wonder what time the celebration is? I, for one, would love to be able to see part of that :)

Totally agree, Mike. Winning BCS is a big deal. I am proud of the team, and they should definitely celebrate their accomplishments.

I’m only hoping that the tone of the Capstone event doesn’t turn from academics to athletics.

However, I’ve been pretty impressed by the marketing done by the recruiting staff over at Bama, and I know they will put their best foot forward for their target group over at Capstone.

As for whether a non football fan should not attend Bama, if one looks at the quality of their academics, one can see that there’s a lot more to Bama than their awesome football team.

Thankfully, my son has decided to look on this in a positive light. He sees this as an opportunity to look at Bama beyond the football school, even though it’s smack dab in his face, and be willing to explore all the opportunities that are present there.

Again, thanks for the heads up on this event. Good to know there will be traffic problems ahead of time, and we should plan accordingly.

Montegut, AFAIK, you can tour the dorms any day of the week as we have rooms specially for that purpose. An RA would be happy to show you one of those rooms on Sunday if you go over to the dorms and ask.

That’s awesome, SEAtide. Another great suggestion! Would love to see Riverside, Lakeview and Ridgecrest. I’ll give the residence hall office a call to give them the heads up. I was wondering about also seeing if we could eat in a dining hall on Sunday. We did that on the Tulane visit, and it was a great opportunity. Got to see all the different types of kids that went there, how they dressed, a very unrehearsed, natural visit opportunity.

we could eat in a dining hall on Sunday.

This is a 3 day weekend. Bama’s dining hours will be cut-back because of that. Some kids will be taking advantage of that by going to the beach or to the mountains for skiing, snowboarding, etc. There will be students on campus for the 3-day weekend, but not enough to have the dining halls open for regular schedule.

[Bama Dining Locations Map](http://media.campusdish.com/highered/alabama/dininglocationmap.html)
Dining locations marked in BLUE…also, the dining areas in building #112 (on 6th Ave) are supposed to open this month; Don’t know if that has happened yet.

I just checked the ding hall schedule and it specifically states that Lakeside dining will be open normal hours MLK weekend, including Sunday latenight. That may change, but the official schedule has it open.

Where can we find these schedules? I talked to a young lady at the residence hall office today who was very helpful. She directed me to Ridgecrest North to do a tour of a model room. This would be of an apartment type room. If you want to see a regular dorm room model, you can go to the residence hall office on a weekday, and they have a model room set up. So, those of you who will be there Friday may want to check it out.

She also indicated that we could walk into the rec center, the Ferguson Center, the library, to ask for a tour, as they’ll be open on Sunday.

She said we could also go to Lakeside dining hall and pay cash to eat or a debit card, like going to Ryan’s.

I’m going to call all these places just to verify this, as mom said, it is a three day weekend, but if we do miss these things on the Capstone tour, we definitely want to go by there on Sunday before heading home.

Also called St. Francis Catholic parish and got the mass schedule. It’s 9 and 11 am, and there is a Sunday night 7 p mass that most of the students go to. We won’t be around that late, but those of you who will may want to check it out.

Got to run but will let y’all know if I hear any different when I call Ridgecrest, the rec center, the Ferg, and the library. We’ll probably check out Rogers, the science library, but I wouldn’t mind seeing the Gorgas library as well.

Was so happy to talk to such a helpful young lady. She also was able to tell me where these places are located in relation to each other. She said the map we would be given would be pretty overwhelming, so glad I got it broken down into parts as to places we particularly wanted to check out.

Oh, and for those of you interested in competitive swimming, there is a swim meet on campus that weekend, that starts around one. Don’t know how long it will last, but thought some of you might be interested.

SEA_Tide…

Did the eating venues in Lloyd Hall open yet?

Also, isn’t there another eating venue that’s supposed to open on the other side of the Quad…like maybe a Subway?? (maybe I’m remembering wrong.)

I guess this what you’re referring to, m2ck.

I haven’t seen anything in the CW about any of these locations actually opening. I have a free day tomorrow, so I will go and check Bidgood and Lloyd to see if anything’s opened there.

thanks!

I’m just glad that food will be available in Quad area and for those in the Hackberry Lane area.

According to the official schedule, the new food options in Lloyd Hall are not open yet. Considering Bama Dining (Aramark)'s record of not honoring promotions or taking gift cards, if I will be having Subway, it’s going to be at the Subway off-campus about half a block away from Publix. Plus, the hours don’t change from week to week.

LOL…

Yes, I noticed that the Starbucks doesn’t take my Starbucks gift cards. That seems to be a college thing. When I was at Vandy and at Miss St, they wouldn’t take them, either.
