Been lurking on this thread for a little while so finally decided to post!
Applied: UCLA, UCB, UCSB TAG
Accepted: UCLA, UCB, UCSB
GPA: 3.87
I had over 60 units (which included AP credit) and I also took classes over the summer. The major I was focused on was Public Affairs for UCLA, and it had 8 major prereq classes. I took 3 over the summer and 5 in the fall- I really don’t think I could’ve done any more! Transferring in one year is definitely possible, especially if your major doesn’t have a lot of prereqs. It’s absolutely worth a shot, and I’m so glad I went this route!
Applied:UCLA,UCI
Accepted:UCLA
Rejected:UCI
GPA:3.84
math major
very minimal AP credits
15 units summer 18 fall 22 spring
60 units flat overall
Got in everywhere but UC Berkeley for a science major (environmental science). I will most likely be attending UCLA, unless I get into Stanfrod. This thread is proof that transferring in one year is worth it and can totally be done! Best of luck to future 1 year transfers, give it your best shot and you will not be disappointed!!!
For anyone here, did you guys only apply to the UC app with your summer quarter grades and the rest as “planned” and “in progress”. I am asking because I am looking towards a one year transfer but concerned as to how I will be reporting a strong GPA???
@ripadmissionflip Hey so I took 9 units in the summer, had a couple of units done from high school, and took 19 units in the fall. After you apply in November, in January you update your fall grades as part of the transfer academic update (TAU) that you have to fill out in January. So, admissions officers will be able to see both your summer and fall terms in order to make a decision on your admission. Make sure you keep a 4.0 GPA in these summer and fall terms while completing as many of your major pre-res as possible! Best of luck in your journey.
@fearthfihr You are so kind!! Thank you so much for the motivation and the info! I am planning to major in poli sci so I hope to get the majority of my prereqs out this summer-spring! Fingers crossed! Also I hope you have an awesome time in college!!!
REFERENCE FOR FUTURE ONE YEAR STUDENTS
Stats: 4.0
Major: Computer Science for most schools, Computer Science and Engineering for UCLA
Had 30 AP Credits from HS
Took 12 quarter units in Summer 2019, 34 Fall 2019, took 56.5 TOTAL quarter units for Winter and Spring 2020.
Then only reason why I took so many classes was because Computer Science requires physics prerequisites so I doubled up for my Spring Semester at a different community college.
Two part-time jobs: kumon and coding instructor
Worked on coding side projects for women in STEM
Accepted: UCLA, UCI, UCSD, USC, UCR with Regents, UCSC with Regents
Rejected: UCB, UCSB, UCD
I know that I took a lot of classes, but if you work hard it is 100% possible to pull it off and receive a perfect GPA.
I have already committed to UCLA for Fall 2020!

Hi guys. Really hoping someone will respond to this even though it’s October! I have been looking into transferring to a UC school from a community college in one year. I am currently at SMU in Dallas and hate it and my parents just informed me that I have to pay the entire tuition myself. Will UC schools reject my application if they see that I left SMU (a four year) to go to community college and then transfer? Also, I am looking to go biz econ at UCLA but will only have half of the prereqs done by the fall (the rest will be in spring). Does this matter? I want to make sure I have all the info before I make my decision. Also as of now, I am projected to get a 4.0 my first semester and I have over 45.5 of transferrable AP/IB credits.
hey sorry for the late reply but i’d totally go for it if you don’t like it at smu
