I was just wondering what my chances are for certain UC campuses. I applied to 7 (LA, SD, Berk, SB, Irvine, Davis, Santa Cruz). I know the higher ones are a bit of a reach for me but I'm just wondering what everyone else thinks. My stats are as follows:
-3.82 UC gpa (3.45 uw, 4.08 w). Took as many honors / AP's as I could.
- 1980 SAT, 29 ACT, 690 Math 2 Subject Test, 580 Literature
- Decent EC's. 150 hours com service, 4 years volleyball, JSA, NHS, Guitar 6 years.
- Straight A's junior year, sophmore year was pretty terrible though (maybe this shows that I improved?)
- I liked my personal statements quite a bit, very unique.

Any info / opinions are greatly appreciated - thanks!

The ave. UC GPA for UCB/UCLA is 4.17 as I recall, so you’re quite low on that metric. YOur SAT is a little low, but in an acceptable range. YOur SATIIs are also on the low side.

Since UCs place more emphasis on GPA than any other criterion, I’d say you’re a longshot for UCLA/UCB and UCSD. I’d say you match to UCI/UCD/UCSB, and that you’re safe for UCSC.

If you are African-American, move yourself up one full category from what I described above. If you’ve overcome some huge life hurdles, the same. “What? I thought the UCs were not allowed to take race into account in admissions.” Yes and no. It’s not part of the application, but it is very clear if you are African-American or Hispanic from your ECs and essays (“Tell us about your world…”, so that’s how they do it.

Thanks for the info. Sadly I’m not african american, but I’ve visited all the schools and like them all equally so I’d be quite happy to get into any of them. :)
