UC and Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, MIT (Regular Decision)

Hello. I am a Korean-American senior in California applying RD to the schools mentioned in title. I would like to obtain some honest opinions about my chances in getting into the colleges mentioned in my title because I feel that a lot of people are not giving truthful answers to my question about my chances. Also, my parents and I are ignorant about college admissions because we are not able to afford a counselor or tutors; I am the first generation to go to college and am applying as an economics major. Here is my “resume”.

Community Service:

  • I perform at the local senior center monthly for the seniors while they dine for lunch with a few close friends.
  • I go to the local food bank with my mother every day (excepting school days and religious days) to help out.

Work Experience:

  • My father is the general manager of a restaurant, and so I have worked for him during my summers for three years.

Extracurriculars:

  • All-Southern Orchestra (Regional) for 7 years, principal violist for 6 years
  • All-State Orchestra for 6 years, principal violist for 4 years
  • All-National Orchestra for 2 years
  • National Youth Orchestra for 2 years
  • Pacific Symphony Youth Ensemble (prestigious program under Pacific Symphony) for 7 years
  • High School Water Polo for 4 years, Varsity for 2 years
  • High School Swim for 4 years, Varsity for 1 year
  • various clubs (FBLA, Science Olympiad, Spaceset, Rocketry, etc.)

I will most likely apply for financial aid; my parents killed themselves while working to provide for me in order to give me the best opportunity for going to the best college.

Chances?

hi. how was the result @EPark18 ?

All that with first-gen? I’m not one to talk, but it seems like you have a very high chance to get into any of these schools in my uninformed opinion. MIT came out recently, how did you fare?

You are a very competitive applicant. Your stats and ECs are great. With amazing essays you could get accepted to any of these schools

Accepted to all, thanks for the support everyone!

congrats!

Man that’s incredible! I’m sorry no one replied to you earlier, but I would’ve said that you had a great chance at all! Amazing man!
