How exactly does AP exam credits transfer to UCs? For instance, if I scored a 5 on the AP Eng. Language exam, will those credits count towards GEs so that I do not have to take the university courses equivalent to the AP exam?

Yes your AP exams can exempt you from taking a course. Are you at community college? Look at the IGETC agreement with your school to see what classes your AP tests fulfill <a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors;

Yes, talk to a counselor

If you attend community college, all of your AP classes should be able to be used for GE requirements. Those classes will go towards certain requirements.

Ex.) One of my exams was AP environmental science, I received 2.7 units for UC and 3 units for my AA degree for getting a 4 on the test, the APES exam fulfilled my physical and lab science requirement.

Some things to note: Your CC will give you more credit towards THEIR degree programs than UC will, just go with the UC requirements.

Some UC’s (like Davis) will allow AP’s to be used for major-preqs if you’re a transfer student, other schools (Berkeley) will not.

For TAG, schools require 30 semester units to be completed in the first year. Some (Davis) allow AP credit to be used towards that total, others (SB) do not

Thank you so much for the help and useful information!
