@ilikedrpepper i just called them as well and was told the same thing… You should complete the update form through the admission portal and explain your situation… I just did that, im not sure whether I should email her as well or leave it at that. Let me know how it goes for you!
I still am looking through this thread so I don’t know if anyone has brought it up, but I have read that the Media Studies major is highly theoretical, which makes me hesitate a little, considering I want to learn skills to be able to succeed in a media internship/job. If I am not learning practical skills for this type of field, then is it really worth it?
So I guess I am wondering if Cal provides/helps with finding better internships? If they do, it’s probably more worth it than the other schools I applied to.
Hey all, I just received some very unsettling info.
On my conditions of admission, it said I had to complete four classes this summer with a 3.0 and all that, but I’m not planning on taking those classes anymore because they were pre-reqs for other schools. I was told to update the Undergraduate Admissions Update Form, and when I said I had made changes to my summer schedule, I got a message that said,
“You have indicated that you are not meeting your Conditions of Admission. Your admission may be subject to cancellation. You must provide detailed responses to the questions below and submit this form immediately. If you are not meeting your Conditions of Admission, DO NOT SUBMIT A POSITIVE SIR for the Berkeley campus until you receive a response. The explanation that you provide below, will be reviewed by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.”
They also said my admissions officer would review my form and advise me by May 25, 2017. I’m so worried now. I already submitted my SIR because I didn’t know this would be such a big deal. What have I done? Is my admission going to be revoked from Cal?
Also, what is a timeline of circumstances?
Is anybody able to look at financial aid? Is it just the summer registered people or everybody? Can someone please confirm that they can see their financial aid?
It’s under “My Finances” on Cal Central @LandUseLaw
@LandUseLaw A previous post indicated that about 100 students is affected. I’m not sure if its relate to summer registered people(I’m one of them and cant see financial aid), but their working on it. No time frame on when it will get fix.
I’m also waiting for Financial Aid info so I can make my decision. AHHHH! the wait
dang, yeah, and the deadline for SIRing to CalPoly SLO is today, this really sucks. I wonder if they can send it to us another way if we ask.
is there a transfer Cal day? if so when is it? it the same thing as the transfer bridges/transfer weekend this weekend?
i cant seem to find anything on their website about a transfer cal day but im hoping there is one on a separate weekend because this weekend is triton day at UCSD. would really like to go to both
@otoribashi Where are you seeing the information for the transfer bridges thing?
@LandUseLaw If you’re able to get ahold of them and see your FA another way, please let us know! I didn’t have much luck this morning.
@GoBear Maybe your fafsa was missing information? I would check on the dashboard to make sure fafsa is under completed items. If that’s not the issue I would recommend emailing and/or calling the financial aid office
I talked to them this morning re: the financial aid issue. It is because we created the CalCentral account early. I gave them my student ID and they said “up to a week or more” for it to be fixed.
I don’t know if anyone else has done this yet, but is anyone else having trouble applying for housing and/or noticing that all your major classes already have too many students in them. Does anyone know if Berkeley reserves spots in classes for transfer students?
Do they consider transfers for merit aid?
@smrider29 I heard the same, unfortunately.
@Batgirl97 How are you seeing your major classes?
Just talked to CalCentral and confirmed that those who can’t see their financial aid is due to the summer registration. They said it is a computer error in which the datas is not transferring over somehow. Their working on the issue and can take up to a day or more. I ask if I can contact financial aid for the funds info and they indicated no. We just have to wait and see. Sorry and good luck.
@jostream77 my admissions officer reached out almost immediately after saying that same thing, that I would need to fill out the form for logistical purposes and I just did not check any of the boxes (as none directly applied to me).
They were super helpful and since I met all of the requirements last quarter they mentioned I could still SIR if I would like now. I was surprised at how quickly they responded as I assumed they would be bombarded with questions today! They did say they still review it and need a couple of days to set everything up so just an FYI if that helps at all!
