UC Berkeley 2017 Transfer Thread

@LandUseLaw I still can’t see my financial aid either! And I got an email from them last night saying I’m missing a document and to check under my finances what I need to turn in, but my my finances page is still blank.

@TheVisionary re: #3, a certain number of spaces are reserved for new major admits, so while some electives may be hard to come by, there usually is space in major courses - or most of the main ones.

Can you register for fall class already? I don’t have that option in my portal.

@LandUseLaw
Don’t worry I also can’t see financial aid
Prob because I did not apply.LOLLLLLL
I am out of state from four year university so I do not think I am eligible.

Has anyone submitted/completed their house app? Mine still only says summer 2017.

@maluminati Then that is all the approval that you need. Even if an adviser gives approval that another advisers might disapprove of, all advisers are representatives of the institution. They would either have to honor the advise of the adviser, or provide all alternative that would not result in a student losing their admissions or a degree. They can’t argue that you shouldn’t have listened to their employee. That is how lawsuits get filled.

Graduate schools calculate GPA their own way based on the grades on the transcript. Sometimes their calculations will bring your GPA up (Ex: More points for A+s), sometimes it will bring it down. Granted, if you don’t plan to attend law school, a phd program, or something having to do with foreign language. You’ll be fine.

@Ohm888 That depends on the department. STEM departments are probably way better about this because those majors are filled with sequence courses. They have to save spots or transfers wouldn’t be able to graduate on time. Other departments, such as social sciences, do not tend to have sequence courses, so the courses with saved spots will be random electives. The advisers will try their best to leave spots for transfers. You just won’t be swimming in options in certain majors. All of the Polisci transfers joked about being in the same two classes because they were the only options left for us.

Anyone who got into both UCLA and Cal. How did you guys make your decision to where to SIR???

@thevisionary Wow. Good to know! I’m media studies and all required courses I’ve tried for had reserved spots. YOU PICKED THE WRONG MAJOR!
:))
That makes it tough when you’re trying to make inroads.

Are any of you going to the vice chancellors reception?

For those of you who are able to access the financial aid package. Do you know what ‘Conditional’ means for a UC Transfer scholarship? What would the conditions be?

@gobear no, we’re only allowed to register for classes starting July 10, 2017. Read the link I provided below, it provides all the details about the golden bear orientation

on the bridges application i said i would be able to attend another admissions event but now i realize i cant cuz i have class/final on that day where they come to your city… and this weekend im going to triton day instead at UCSD … :frowning: so there really isn’t another Cal Day for Transfers? :frowning:

I applied for the bridges but never heard from them if I was going or not. Pretty bummed, I really wanted to go!

@bigvoot its mainly whichever offers me more money haha

@LandUseLaw I am going through SD airport, wish I could go to LAX tho. Either way, we’ll meet each other pretty soon.

housing is such a pain right now, idk if I want to live on campus or off… in a dorm or apartment? helpppp

does anyone know what CONDITIONAL scholarship means? does that mean we might not get what is being offered to us?
