@fcb1010 Your GPA is above the 25th percentile for admits. I’d say you have a decent chance of admission if your essays are good. The only thing that hurts you might be your lack of EC’s, since EECS is so competitive.Best of luck! Care to chance me back?
@ald6191 Wow. Can I just what everyone must be thinking when reading your comment?-- You sir, are absolutely awesome. Your daughters must be so proud, as am I, a total stranger!! I hope UCSD is great for you, congratulations on your admission, many more to come
@futurelawyer88 Thank you for your kind words! I wonder if I will receive the “oldest transfer student” award! I am looking forward to this all, has been very amazing experience so far.
@Rosedarling123 Wow. I’ve heard stories about 4.0’s being rejected but never met a person who was. Did they apply to extremely impacted/difficult majors where that their EC’s were extremely lacking? For example Computer Science, Haas or Econ? If it’s for majors other than that I’m going to start being more worried than I am now. If that was possible.
@orangred123 a little self congratulatory back slapping…worked fulltime, part time evenings in CC computer lab, earned AA degree with 3.73 gpa. Only 4 B’s; english 101 (first ever college class), Bio, Geology, and Stats.
I graduated high school in 1983. Never too late!!
@ald6191 That is quite the life story. Your daughters sound like fabulous people. Props to you for choosing to take the leap in changing careers. Since your youngest is still in school, I assume you probably would prefer to stay in SoCal. If’ll be a difficult decision if you also get accepted into Cal and LA along with your acceptance to SD. Though that’s a choice you want to be in a position to make even if it maybe hard.
@ald6191 Nice. Hopefully Cal and LA recognize that hard work. Only a few more weeks!
@Orangered123 I believe they must have applied to highly impacted majors. But Berkeley also looks at your extracurriculars, so maybe there might be students with 4.0s but no extracurriculars at all. So, that might have made a difference too…
@Rosedarling123 That makes me relax a bit. I didn’t apply to an impacted major, but I mentioned an impacted major in my main essay (along with my Cal major) since I applied as the impacted to another UC. I hope they don’t look toooo much into that. My extracurriculars are solid so I’m not tooo worried about that. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
How many folks on here are interested in joining the coops if accepted?
Hello everyone! If anyone here is a math, stats, or CS major: do you guys know if Diff Eq is required before transferring? Like, would it be okay if I take it over the summer?
@Shytstorm I’m a stats major, and yes, you do need differential equations before you transfer. It is a major pre-requisite. And maybe schools like UCD, and other more lenient UCs will allow you to take that course over the summer. But as far as I know, UCLA and UCB want you to have all your pre-requisites done the Spring before you transfer. Nevertheless, you should call up an advisor at the UCs you’ve applies to and find out if they would allow you to do that. I had a friend last semester, who took Calc 2 the summer before she transferred to UCD.
@Shytstorm It needs to be completed by the end of the spring following your application submission. Your application won’t be considered if it’s not completed (or planned) by the end of spring. The summer before you intend to transfer does not count and assist.org and/or the CS website states this pretty clearly.
Are there are transfers on that subreddit? I’d love to take a look!
And thank you so much! I’ve come a long way since high school and it’s shocking to think I have been accepted to schools of that prestige! Glad to hear your friends are loving their time there too.
No way, my friends are sick of me talking about anything that has to do with transferring too! I’ve become a lot closer with people who are transferring this year, which is funny, but there is just so much to talk about. I’m glad I have a virtual group for support as well.
Have fun at Hamilton! @Orangered123

Hey guys,
I applied with a gender studies major at Cal as a transfer student. I heard the major isnt that impacted. Sadly enough, my gpa is below a 3.0. I read everywhere that the gpa to get into that major is a 2.0, and yes, I am higher than a 2.0 ! My extracircular activities are pretty solid as well. What do yall think? Will it be easy to get in ?? I also took a gender studies intro class, which universities like to see!
Dude you seem solid ! Good luck
@morocco123 I believe the school looks at your application more than just your GPA. If you have good extracurricular activities and personal statement, I believe you might have some chance to get in.
@morocco123 GPA isn’t everything, but the statistics for gender and women studies major at Cal are at a 25th to 75th percentile of 3.54-3.79. Only 25% of students who were accepted had a GPA underneath 3.5. Unless your extracurriculars and personal statements are simply fabulous I wouldn’t expect much. Especially since you seem to have taken only an intro class for gender studies, which is not nearly enough to show Cal your interest. I hope you also applied to the Cal States and other UC’s?
@doihaveashot2016 There are transfers on the subreddit but they’re few and it’s hard to find them in a sea of general freshmen applicants. Same, it’s really nice to have this online to just talk/vent/discuss about transferring and such. I will have fun at Hamilton. Well I will once finals end. #QuarterSchoolProblems
In the chance that you folks are accepted, will you be taking summer classes at Cal?
I know I’m totally getting ahead of myself here, and I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask, but is it required of all science majors to get at least a B in all of their classes this last semester?
