im doing poorly in one of my major courses and i dont think ill get a B or higher… maybe a C if im lucky but yeah… how bad is this? i never knew about this “B or above” policy for the final semester
That’s the first I hear of the policy. Where did you get that information from? @otoribashi
You do not necessarily get a B or better. The general rule is C or better but every provisional contract is unique and sometimes they want a higher grade.
Like Unique per person? Or varying by specific college?
@transferrr222 I think it depends on whether or not you’ve completed the pre-reqs and how impacted of a major it is
You can’t switch majors if your transferring. Or else people would cheat the system, apply for an easy major and then change.
@bugajskj Meh, that’s not always true. One of my best friends got into UCLA as a linguistics major and was able to switch to physics immediately. I agree with @lexluther96 ; basically your chances of switching into a major correlate with how competitive the major is
The anticipation is slowly killing me. 28 days til the date.
^^^ no way to say how they figure out provisionals.
i always thought it was C or above i didn’t know that they specifically write conditions for each person…for a large public school that seems like a waste of resources
Not really because some people are borderline or they’re worried that they don’t have the necessary knowledge of math, etc.
Are there easier and harder majors for transfer students? Like is applying as a popular major more likely to lead to a rejection than a less popular one (all else being equal). If so what might these harder majors be?
@LandUseLaw It’s hard to tell exactly what to make of a lot of these things, since the sample sizes are small, but it looks to me like econ and psych are hard.
@LandUseLaw @sPib9Kiv9anD0aWd Also Haas business and sociology I think
@sPib9Kiv9anD0aWd It’s just how one of my favorite quotes from the Godfather novel tells it: “Pop always taught me to think as people around you think, and on that basis everyone and their mother will be applying to psychology, biology, engineering, or business/econ at just about every school”
@sPib9Kiv9anD0aWd Absolutely. Impacted majors receive far more applicants. There are only X amount of slots. The more applicants there are, the lower acceptance rate, the harder it is to get in.
If you google it, you’ll find acceptance rate by major. The lower the number, the harder to get in. Generally, most STEM is difficult to get into. Business is very hard to get into. EECS/CS, etc. Actually, I see that this is posted above. The sample size you speak of, these figures are similar each year (or, in many cases, more applicants relative to the same number of offers), so I’d say it’s a fairly accurate representation of what’s going on … keeping in mind that more and more students are applying to Cal each year.
This wait is the absolute worst. 25 more days!
Anyone in here have any luck with reapplying? I got in last year but couldnt go due to financial aid.
If you got in once, you will likely get in the second time.
