@Orangered123 It’s on the page for people who didn’t get in…
@doihaveashot2016 Hopefully you do! Two more days until we find out. If worst comes to worst you should try appealing to LA or Cal.
@akilablat Oh damn. That’s a crazy change in their normal acceptance rate and such. I hope Cal comes through for you on Friday!
@akilablat Which CC did you do the major prep work at for CED? There are so few.
@champagnemami Last year a couple of my friends got waitlisted or rejected from LA and got into Cal. Hopefully friday goes well for you!
When do we hear from Cal? Got into UCLA, UCSD, and UCSB. Just waiting on Berkeley and Georgetown.
That’s how many they expect to enroll, divide that number by .6 which is the expected yield rate to get how many people they admitted, it should be similar to last year, around 5000.
@Itsmoose365 This Friday at 5 is the official time, but I’ve been hearing decisions could come out as early as 3:30.
@LandUseLaw San Diego Mesa College
@Orangered123 Where did you read that 5 is the official time? I’m just curious because I haven’t heard that yet
Yes apparently most of the UCs say if I go past 90 units (CCC+ OOS) I’m pretty much finished for transfer but I’m at 87 after the Spring 2017 semester so I’m fine for the UCs I care about except UCLA which has a 85.5 unit cap for me.
@Orangered123 Is there such a huge acceptance change at other UCs?I hope Berkeley stay the same…they don’t wanna higher acceptance than UCLA though…
Thanks! I’m really hoping you get in @Orangered123 Can you only appeal to one school?
@plsacceptmeUCs I tried looking around but I have no idea where I read that. Maybe 5 is just tradition too or something?
@akilablat I still don’t think UCLA changed that much. As far as I know the rest of the UC’s have kept a standard acceptance rate and numbers this year.
honestly still shocked i was rejected from ucla with a 3.94 all prereqs and igetc done for psych… oh well
i toured Berkeley last weekend and was really leaning towards there anyways, fingers crossed
rejected by UCLA. History major w/ 3.73 gpa. Missing one history pre-req out of 3. Accepted to UCSD, UCR and CSUSM. UCSD was first choice so I am not disappointed. Saw other history applicants accepted on the UCLA thread to same major with lower gpa.
I have been in the corporate world for almost 30 years and this reminds me of sitting with the owner of a company (I was a Controller) and having to decide who would receive christmas bonuses and how much. We had a set budget and either you divide it equal or portion it based on some other criteria. Considering the fact these schools do not limit the number of applicants it is inevitable that 70 out of every 100 applicants will be denied.
The shame is that this process confirms the class bias within our society. The feeling of many let’s say CS majors is their assumption is that an employer will look at their resume and see that they graduated from UC Merced and if in the running from a Cal or UCLA grad, they will be looked over. The only way around this is looking at what is expected to be the return on this investment and who determines the value?
The UC system as a whole is the best state university system in the United States. Yet, there are several tens of thousands of transfer students crying this evening because they were not admitted to UCLA. The challenge is that one cannot diminish the accomplishment of those that were accepted (kudos @Orangered123 ) yet invariably those students will feel a sense of superiority because they were “chosen”. That breeds the fallacy of meritocracy, because the UCLA and Cal admission process is not mechanical (ie. highest gpa’s get in), but holistic (however that is defined). Many humans made value judgments and said yea or nay. They have their own biases, and the university has informed them as to the “type” of student they want admitted. Who wouldn’t feel special if they knew they were 30 out of 100!!
This entire process has been very eye opening and informative!
Friday should be fun!!
I got an email last year for admissions at 3:45 PST. (Denied). I’m not really holding out much hope this year as I’m applying to an extremely competitive major (ChemE) where they let in 28 out of 200 applicants last year. I’ve been accepted to SJSU’s ChemE program so that’s where I’ll end up.
@Orangered123 I wish it was made up by UCLA to comfort the people who didn’t get in…but damn that really raises the panic of people who waiting for Berkeley…
Got into UCLA for business economics, but as most past threads will tell you. It’s common for a person to get rejected to UCLA and get into Berkeley and vice versa. Hopefully those that didn’t get good news today get surprised on Friday.
