I realize this is cross-posted in the non-sub thread, but it won’t be there as soon as I figure out how to delete it. Anywaaay.
I’m hoping someone can solve this problem for me. I’ve been wanting to transfer to Berkeley in the fall of 2016 for psychology for two years now and have been working to finish all the requirements (as according to assist.org) in that time. Unfortunately, I noticed last week that the new 2015-2016 Assist agreement is out, and that got rid of my current biological anthropology class that used to be under the now-extinct evolution requirement. Instead, a linguistics class has popped up under the social science section to take instead. I can drop the bio anthro class and take a short-term linguistics class if I need to follow the new agreement, or keep the bio anthro class and forget the linguistics class if it’s the previous agreement that I need to follow. I started college during the 2013-2014 year, if that helps.
Short version: what version of the assist.org agreement am I supposed to be following? D:
You need to follow the most current assist. They did drop the bio course. They also added calculus. Did you see that? However, I believe the agreement says you can finish major prep through summer. They added that to accommodate these exact situations. Anyhow, like orangered said, I’d drop bio and switch.
You should check assist and the actual website to verify the summer completion is still current.
Orangered123, I called Berkeley twice and got two different answers. The Office of Undergrad Admissions told me to follow the one in the year I started college and the Psychology department told me to follow the new one. I could call a third time for a tie breaker?
lindyk8, I saw the calculus add. Thankfully, they kept the two statistics courses I’ve already taken. The only thing I was hung up on was the bio-anthro course and the liguistics class. In truth, though, I don’t want to take additional courses in the summer. I’m willing to cram the linguistics course in so that after I get my AA-T from my school, I can work to save some money for my first year in university.
@aepaige I know the students who started this fall did not have the calc req, but berkeley decided to enforce it, and there was a public outcry, so they reversed decision and said 2015 fall transfers did not need to complete calc. My instinct is 2016 applicants need to complete what is up there in fall 2015, as they have a year to do it. That’s the usual procedure across the board, otherwise there would be chaos. Imagine someone starting four years ago, with changes since, saying I was told to follow the plan I started with.
Anyway, good news re: your calc. That appears to be the biggest headache for most.
@lindyk8 My instinct is leading me to follow the new one. I’m going to talk to my current college counselor to drop the bio anthropology and add linguistics since I’m over 18 units. Thanks for all your advice. I appreciate it.
