UC Berkeley - Class of 2020 Waitlist

@“Jordan Manthey” which major?

Computer Science BS

Does anyone know if we will definitely not hear until after May 1? I know there are some other schools that let students know periodically even before May 1st.

@sydward same here. If berkeley doesnt come through i will be going to USC.

Hey guys I’m just really upset because I didn’t get into any schools and ironically I got wait listed to the top university

I also qualified for ELC which is quite strange

@erd2020 Would make sense that they will only admit off the list after May 1st because only after that date would they know how many spaces they have available.

@Yellowdude19 there is a statistic somewhere that says berkeley’s class is 99% filled with students from the top tier of their high school class. I got ELC too but it doesnt mean shit to them

Hi everyone. Second post here. So I’ve been waitlisted too. I’m going to be opting in soon as fast as I get this essay finished. Does anyone have any recommended topics/ideas? Let’s get through this together guys… I really want to go to UC berkeley.

I completed a small internship in December (after the applications) so I’m thinking of referring to that in my essay. But I don’t want that to be the only case - I want to showcase my interest for engineering again and perhaps go into detail about one of my past experiences representing my country Bahrain at the Formula 1 in Schools championships in Texas.

@TopChed were you wait listed?

Does anyone have a source of essay examples? Especially, waitlist essays.

Waitlisted 2300 SAT 35 ACT 800 on Math II and Bio M and 4.7 GPA rank 1/500ish class. I am so sad :frowning:
With that being said, has anyone done the essay yet? What are some things you guys are mentioning?

@ezmoneysniper You make me feel guilty for getting onto the waitlist. You sound super impressive. I am sure Ivy Day will treat you better

@NICE8x Thank you for the kind words! Don’t feel guilty at all, we were all waitlisted for a reason, I’m sure that you are definitely a great applicant that Berkeley wants to keep in mind. Unfortunately, it has been a super disappointing year (been rejected/waitlisted by a lot of my top choice schools). Nevertheless, I’ll keep my fingers crossed. Best of luck to you as well!

Is Integrated Biology hard to get into? And does anyone know what college that is?

@Yellowdude19 yes for industrial engineering, what’s your major?

@smashhighschool Here is my waitlist essay:
"Dear Formerly…I mean… Still My Top Choice School,
I want to let you know that I am still extremely desperate to attend Berkeley despite the fact that you don’t feel the same way about me. Why, you ask? Well, as we all know, if I don’t get in I will be forced to attend a school with lesser name recognition than Berkeley, say like Indiana. Do you want to spend four years in Indiana? I thought not. And without your prestigious name on my resume, my future prospects darken considerably. Would you want your child to spend $250,000 in order for him to graduate and say “I’m a management trainee at LAX Hertz!”? Hmmm? I don’t think so. Or worse, without the prestige of Berkeley on my resume, I’ll end up in some quasi-governmental job with no future and no prospects other than squabbling with my coworkers over getting “Sr.” attached to my already meaningless title. Endless, unfulfilling, mind-numbing and soul-crushing hours where I spend my bitter energy irrationally trying to make others as miserable as myself. You know, a job like, say, oh, I don’t know…an admissions officer for a state university. Please don’t let this happen to me and immediately admit me.
Sincerely,
Berkeley’s Biggest Fan.

@TopChed I’ve applied for integrative biology. When I searched it up it said it was in the college of Letters and Science? Is that correct?

When do they declare the WL results? is that rolling after the SIR deadline or all the WL’s results released in one shot?

@TopChed I was waitlisted for IEOR too. What are your stats?
