UC Berkeley - Class of 2020 Waitlist

With some real sadness, I have decided not to accept.

Best of luck!

Out of curiosity, last year did Berkeley offer Fall admission to waitlisted students? Is it possible that they gave us these three options because they wanted to fill up seats in those programs?

Because with Global Edge and FPF Frisco both being small programs, there might not be any space at all like @BerkPlzAcceptMe said.

Does anyone know when the next wave is being released?

@uclasdsb FPF San Francisco is 2/3 full as of today. Not sure about Global Edge. According to the person I spoke with at FPF, the next wave will be after this SIR deadline (5/17) if space is still available. I asked if offers would be made to start in Jan if other enrollment paths are full and they said possibly.

I just got accepted off of the waitlist on Tuesday for chemical engineering. I think my waitlist personal statement really helped, and I’m deciding between Berkeley & another school. They give a very small window to make your decision (they only gave me a week), so if you get an email from Berkeley to check your MAP@Berkeley, do it ASAP. Good luck to everyone waiting to hear back! Also if you think you’re not going to get in there’s still hope, because I had said literally the day before that I finally accepted the fact that they weren’t going to admit me off the waitlist.

BioEngineering waitlist here! I called the admission office yesterday about whether I stood a chance to be enrolled and they were of no help. Does anyone know if the space is full or if I stand a chance to get off wait list?

Talked to admissions office. I’m an in state student and applied to L and S. Next wave is next Thursday I think and the lady told me I pretty much have no chance.

@yoyohi There’s a BART station 2 blocks from the West side of campus. The ride from Berkeley to SF will actually take about 45 minutes (my son and I took the ride for Cal Day and timed it.) There’s a BART station that will take you within 1-2 blocks of FPF SF. It’ll probably cost you about $8 RT. So, if you’ll be commuting from a dorm, I would conservatively say leave home 1.5 hours before class time.

@zarmok1998 what did she say that basically said you had no chance? I felt this next wave which is on the 17th, would have at least some slim chance of accepting in state students?

@kornido would you say the commute time is a hassle?

Also, which one out of the 3 options of enrollment would you say is the best?

@BerkPlzAcceptMe I asked her what are my chances of getting in. She said I can’t tell you that. Then i asked her if she had to guess what my chances were what would they be. Then she said if I had to guess I’d say you probably do not have a chance.

did a lot of people get accepted off the waitlist?

@yoyohi A little bit, yes. But, hey, it’s just for about four months and you may like the excitement of being in the city. You’ll be in the Financial District of SF, and you’ll just be 2 BART stations away from the Union Square downtown shopping area.

Of the 3 options, the best option is FPF Berkeley, I think. You’ll feel very much like a regular Fall admit because a some of your classes WILL be on campus, and you’ll experience a regular campus life (e.g. study in the libraries, hang out on campus, join clubs, etc.) But if FPF Berkeley is full then go FPF SF. Global Edge sounds great, except you’ll have no summer and you won’t really start to get familiar with Cal until Spring. Also with GE, Spring only housing is not guaranteed.

@kornido Thx for ur replies. They have been really helpful :).
FPF Berkeley is full rn, and I really don’t want to do Global Edge or January Enrollment. Would you say FPF SF is a very good experience?

@yoyohi This is the first year for SF, but it will be similar to FPF Berkeley

@yoyohi @1Katniss is right. This is the first year of FPF SF. While FPF Berkeley will give you a normal Cal experience (really, you’ll pretty much feel like a regular, full-on Cal student), FPF SF may be quite fun because some of the classes take advantage of the great location, taking you on field trips around the city. Hey, you’re accepted. Deciding on enrollment options is a great problem to have! BTW, everything I’m telling you is from personal experience, as a Cal/Haas alumna and SF Bay Area native. I was a Cal “Spring Admit” which was the equivalent to what they now call FPF.

Hey everyone! I’m an international student and I had a doubt about make up calSO. So since I won’t be attending calSO in june or july, is it neccesary to attend in august ? Also what’s the difference bw make up calSO and international student orientation in august? Thanks in advance!

potential third wave on tuesday?

@swagpop637 I think the current SiR deadline is 5/17 so maybe after that.
