@grosty nobody knows tbh but generally UCLA is not as stressful as cal. If you love ucla go with it.
@grosty Both are excellent schools. Go with you’re gut.
@grosty Berkeley has an amazing chem eng department but honestly its your choice. I’ve personally picked cal over UCLA for CS cos of its excellent facilities on campus and when I went for the open day, I didn’t find it competitive at all! My tour guide was super nice :). Hope this helps
@grosty, for what it’s worth, when our son was considering the “Berkeley vs. UCLA” question last year, one of our friends (who is a ChemE professor at Berkeley) said to go with UCLA for undergraduate study and Berkeley for graduate work - he thought UCLA did a better job teaching the ChemE undergraduates and giving everyone opportunities to do hands-on research, while Berkeley tended to open up research opportunities only to the top ChemE undergraduates. But either way, you’ll be happy. They are both excellant schools.
@grosty I say go with ucla! both of these schools are amazing, and if you love the school definitely go for it! wouldn’t want to regret it later down the road, and if you’d like, you could go to cal for graduate school!
@bonusoceans yeah that happened for me too but I think Berkeley is waiting for us choose a first year pathway like FPF or Global Edge before they give us anything for fall. They said they would update it on the website for FPF I think. On another note, has anyone been able to create an email for Berkeley? My link is messed up and not working at all.
Hey guys. I just got off waitlist. Does "You do not currently have any Financial Aid information ready to view. Please check Financial Aid & Scholarships - opens in new window or contact Cal Student Central - opens in new window for more information. " mean I didn’t get aid or just that I have to wait longer to find out??
HAH another L for the EECS dream pce boys
@Intelectric I called and they said it should resolve itself in a bit. Also it took me a while to create my email so just be patient.
Does Berkeley have major grade deflation? I just got off the waitlist for Civil Engineering but I’m a little worried about how difficult it’ll be to keep up a good GPA. I certainly want to go but someone told me about their grade deflation and how much more competitive it’ll be compared to UCSD (where I SIRed at)
Hi bro. Did you decide between berk and ucla? @grosty
@Fridayknight99 Stats?
@vallgall congratulations! quick question, did you get in on 7th May or 8th May? I just wanted to double check if they’re doing waves or rolling admissions. Thanks!
@vallgall lIf you like a hyper competitive university then UCB is it!

I received my acceptance off the waitlist on the 7th of May for Fall 2018 to the College of Engineering. No major was specified (although I applied to ChemE which belongs to the CoC).
Do you know if others were admitted to a College or to a specific Major?
That’s great! Congrats!
So you got accepted to the College of Engineering?
I just applied as a chemistry major in the college of chemistry and still haven’t heard back.
@Rish1507 Sorry my bad, I meant to say that I got accepted to the College of Chemistry without mentioning a major in the letter although I applied for ChemE.
@tanyar Thank you! I got in May 7th.
I called UCB at 9:30 today and they told me that the second wave of admissions will be released sometime within the next 7 days
@CU123 Is it so competitive that I’ll have to spend all my time studying and trying to outperform other students because of the curve?
