UC Berkeley - Class of 2022 Waitlisted Applicants Thread

@chrisdong no i didn’t.

Question: I just submitted my opt in form, but I am paranoid that I forgot to check the boxes for FPF and Study abroad options. How can I find out? When I view the form, I just see the two options, but no checkbox anymore

My daughter received an email to check her portal for updates to her application on March 31, decision day. When she checked it, it said waitlist under Fall 2018. Then several days later it said check status. She clicked on it and there’s a letter unable to offer admission for Fall 2018. We are confused. Any insights?

You’re good that means you checked both.

OOS, Waitlisted
3.9 GPA
1430 SAT
Wrote LOC and submitted midyear grades (103/100 GPA)
Does anyone know if we can find out before May 1st???

If you were admitted by WashU and Vanderbilt, but Cal is your dream school, should you still pursue it? On one hand, I feel that we should go to the school that loves us back, but on the hand, Cal is a dream school since childhood. OOS and L&S by the way.

I thought I’d post to give you stats about my D that got in off the waitlist last year. Her stats were - ACT 32, GPA 3.75 uw at a very rigorous bs in the northeast, OOS, no FA, Applied Math Major. She wrote about her fit at Berkeley, and how it aligned with her own beliefs, nothing really academic. She was admitted in the first wave on Friday May 5 at 7pm. She was given the option of Jan admit, or if there was room, FPF Berkeley, FPF San Fran or the London Thing. She chose FPF Berkeley immediately and got in, kids who waited did not. She got housing without an issue. She absolutely did not miss anything by doing FPF, it’s in a building on Hillegass Ave and Dwight, they offer a great array of classes and the max class size is 50, one of her classes was actually on campus. The classes all count as if they were “on campus”. Most of the FPF kids were from the waitlist so that was actually sort of a bonding thing. She competes on a club team, is in a sorority and next year will live off campus. She ended up appreciating the waitlist as “character building” after her initial saltiness for being waitlisted in the first place.

no I didnt

Hey guys - just some lighthearted fun. I cracked open a few fortune cookies after some Chinese food and they went like this …

  1. keep up the hard work, you will be rewarded (pls Berkeley C:)
  2. Someone needs a letter from you (hopefully berk wait list form / letter C:)
  3. You should take a trip with friends (literally traveling to DC with a few friends tomorrow O_o)

Anyways, I just found it funny haha

For all of those who submitted their opt in form… when you check your form now, is your optional essay clumped into 1 “paragraph”?

@mwk123 I havent opted in yet but im pretty sure that the regular UC app did that to me too so its probably normal

@mwk123 my S said his did that too even though he indented and stuff…

Did any waitlisted people that got the accidental congratulations on your acceptance/ EOP email go to the Berkeley luncheon? And if so how was it? Any useful information you can share?

http://www.dailycal.org/2018/03/22/from-waitlist-to-a-list/ Awesome! Y’all should read it

I have no idea what to write my essay about, Berkeley’s the dream, but here’s the situation.

30 ACT 4.2 UC GPA 3.8 UW in state. Philosophy.

I want to write about how extensive and reputable Berkeley’s philosophy department is, they’re the only school out of my possible options that have people focused in political philosophy, which is my favorite branch of philosophy, and as I’m interested in politics as well (considering poli sci double major), it goes hand in hand. In addition, their study abroad program in Tokyo allows polysci majors to connect with Japanese politicians and scholars, and only they and UCLA offer this.

On the other hand, my family situation might possibly be a bit funky in the future, mom might have to go back to Mexico as she’s undocumented, and I have a little brother that still needs to be raised. My sister has a teacher job in Richmond, lives 15 mins away from UC Berkeley, and my other sister has the option of relocating her job to San Francisco. So it’s a possibility that we’d all have to move up there together to still care for my little brother.

Tips, advice, what should I do?

If I am to write a letter of interest to follow up on the waitlist, should I write it in the personal essay section provided on the opt-in form or should I send a separate email to the office of admissions?

why not do both? cover all bases?

For the opt-in form, how do I fill out the grades? My school only has grades for first and second semester, so right now I can only put in my first semester grades. There is an option to put in fall, winter, and spring grades, however. Should I just only put in winter grades since that’s all I officially have?

How likely is it to be admitted to a regular track just starting in August in Berkeley like normal (not FPF, not Global Edge, etc)? Is that feasible or will it most likely be one of the specialized programs?
I applied to L&S (Poli Sci)

@MattFerreyra7 I think i recall them saying not to do anything additional other than filling out the waitlist essay and opt in, but at the end of the day it’s your choice
