@transfer2019stu Yeah, along with a few exceptions such as if you are independent and have someone dependent on you.
Turns out my definition of family and theirs are different. I want to have my mom live with me in university village but cant because my mom is labeled as “Head of household” and I’m labeled as dependent on her even though I contribute more than half to the house rent, utilities, etc.
I’m kinda freaking out…but i literally have zero aid. I thought maybe @jose1996 was right and I had perhaps forgotten UCB in my FAFSA but nope…it’s there. Should I call? This seems SO unlikely I don’t make enough and everyone else has offered me something. I didnt even get offered like a government loan or ANYTHING.
@whostolemycookie I can talk a little about mental health at UC Berkeley. I called the crisis line once (UC Berkeley has their own that’s 24-hour) and was on hold for over 3 hours. (I never called again.) I assume this is a normal amount of time to wait (for UC Berkeley, anyway). I wasn’t calling during finals week, it was just a random time during the middle of the semester. I never scheduled an appointment with CAPS (they have long wait times… Usually around 3-4 weeks, maybe longer) but they do have walk in hours if you’re having a crisis.
I recommend having a really strong support system through family/friends/healthcare professionals back home before you transfer so you have people you can reach out to when you need help.
@cloud7 i dont follow the thread very closely…are you a current/former student at Berkeley? If so, do you mind if I DM you and talk to you about the issue in a bit more detail?
Delayed post because I was out of town…
Accepted from CCC
GPA: 3.8
IGETC: Finishing this semester
Major Prep: All completed except for one class not offered at my school
Major: Media Studies
ECs: work full time as an assistant manager, volunteer at a horse riding stable, part of a cactus and succulent club, and I mentioned some old high school stuff
Essays: Talked about really unique topics about myself, I felt that they were really strong and showed who I was!
Congrats to all who got accepted! I’m surprised by the support I have from others when I got accepted.
If anyone has more information on the Media Studies major please let me know!!
@tsanch17 I have not SIR’ed either but the lady on the phone said that she doesn’t know why it isn’t showing up. And then she put a compliant in the system to fix it so I’ll see what happens there. But I called again because I forgot to ask if adding the Cal Grant lower my scholarship amount and they said yeah my total aid will stay the same but the scholarship amount will be subtracted.
Disabled Students
I heard back from Cal’s DSP (Disabled Students Program) and they said:
“Priority registration can be approved as an accommodation after your first semester.”
I do not know if this only applies to those ‘with documented, permanent disability-based or medical-related needs that impact their ability to get from class to class or building to building quickly’ as is the case for UCLA. Will follow up once I find out
@fullogiggles I’m media studies too! It’s really hard to find any info about the major, I’m browsing through old reddit threads on the berkeley sub to find out more
Hello everyone.
I was recently admitted to Cal
One problem, I am freaking out. I realized I only took 2 years of high school (confusingly) I forgot on my supplemental application that I picked the letters of science pathway to fulfill requirements. It said “3 years completed” I thought I had all 3 but I only had 2.
I’m terrified that I will get rescinded. It’s been 4 years since I’ve been in high school. It was an honest mistake.
