UC Berkeley Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

I got my paper acceptance letter in the mail today! The envelope folds out into four panels with a checklist for newly admitted students, student testimonials, a paper star you can punch out that says “#BerkeleyBound” (which they say to save and paste on your cap at graduation? Literally who’s gonna do that lol), a panoramic photo of the campus and the bay, and then the acceptance letter is in the middle.

@anthro101 My cal grant wasn’t showing up either, it just randomly appeared today. The total amount stayed the same.

Sorry guys I meant the language requirement, lol 2 years of Spanish in high school, not 3. I accidentally selected 3 but today I realized I only finished 2.

Do I have to attend Transfer Day on May 3? Bc I have class on that day…

I accepted admissions offer but I will have to await a response from the Undergraduate Admissions Update Form. I dropped a course a few weeks into the semester. It wasn’t required for major prep or IGETC, but it meant I enrolled in 9 units instead of the recommended 12 units. I basically said that I took the course out of interest, but felt like it didn’t fulfill that interest. Also I am not sure I will be able to meet the 3.0 GPA requirement, because I only have 9 units and there’s a good chance I will earn B, B/C, and a C in these courses. But I accepted the offer anyways. Hopefully I can pull an A-B-C out of my arse!

I thought I’d be able to finish a math or stats minor, but I don’t think that’s going to be possible as a phil major. Things that I will look for at Cal are: participating in the journalism/writing organization, taking a foreign language(Spanish/German/Russian), and anything in Logic/Computer Science.

Accepted from CCC to UCB and UCI. Waiting to hear from UCSD and UCLA.
GPA: Assist GPA was 3.28 at time of Application. Got 3 A’s in 3 unit courses the past fall, so maybe a 3.39?
IGETC: Finishing this semester
Major Prep: All completed
Major: Philosophy
ECs: Member of on campus STEM organization, employed as a math tutor on campus, other employment, started (unofficial) directed study in logic with Professor
Essays: Talked about my background in math and my interdisciplinary interests. Mentioned challenges stemming from high school (I’m 27 and graduated in 2009). Mentioned challenges at first CC’s in 2k9-2k12, and again when I re-enrolled in 2k16.

Do you guys think that Philosophy and English majors have an advantage? They must be insane writers, but then again, they have to compete against each other.

@misseskite Same here…I didn’t get any either. :frowning: I might give them a call on Thursday. Please let me know if they tell you they accept late FASFA haha, thanks!

I assume those who got a phone call would get Regents! Remember this post, haha!

@Ohm888

I applied as media studies but was only accepted into the college of letters and sciences. Do happen to know what this means lol? Is it hard to get classes for this major since its impacted?

@whostolemycookie the only class that might be to you from my last list is CS61A, but that’s only offered at a couple of CCs. The rest you’ll have to take at Berkeley. The CS61A class is offered online this summer at Berkeley but I dont recommend taking it until you’ve got a pretty solid CS foundation, ie taken programming classes and other computer classes prior.

@tramnguyen193 Transfer Day is on May 4 which is a Saturday

@GoodAfternoonSir I also got rejected and already appealed my decision! Do you know when we are supposed to hear back? All it says is they will try their best to respond by July 1st but that’s so vague lmao

Hello! I have a set of questions after getting accepted.

  1. SIR
  2. HOUSING
so… sir and housing, the dates are available
but what about registration for classes? when is that and is that BEFORE meeting our UMA’s? i want to also minor but am i allowed to register for those classes? or am i able to take those classes after my first semester (a.k.a. after i start school, meet my UMA, and declare the minor?)

UPDATE FOR ALL THOSE WHO GOT NO OFFERING FOR FINANCIAL AID:

Apparently this year, there has been a big glitch at UCB where FAFSA wasn’t submitted (despite having listed UCB on my application, unlike some of you). She informed me to update my FAFSA, and manually input the school code. She also opened a case to have a Financial Aid officer review my case to try to pull it directly from FAFSA.

She said this process can take 48 hours, but it would NOT affect any financial aid offering that would have been given from the beginning since it technically was not filed late.

Rejected as a Statistics major. Good luck to all!

@slimreaper it means you need to take Media Studies 10 first, I assume.

there is a off-campus Housing fair going on at Berkeley at Sproul tomorrow 4/24 from 11-1pm. A lot of the off-campus apartment complex reps will be there. Free giveaways.

@noir0neko Well after looking at previous appeal threads for Berkeley, it seems that all appeals that have been accepted come out during the middle of June whereas rejections come out near the end of June.

This is all based on my observations of course.

@noir0neko I’m gonna appeal on the last day, which is May 15, so that I know the grades im getting. Having straight A’s in 10 classes would help me I believe

This feels kinda silly but does anyone else not have anyone that was excited about their acceptance? Like everyone was kinda like “Oh nice good for you” but I’m watching acceptance videos where people’s friends and families are yelling and jumping up and down and crying and I just kind of want someone to share my excitement with, idk ¯_(ツ)_/¯
