Nothing for my son yet either…

I’m hoping they send out notifications around 5 or sooner… People on the east coast will be getting them on the late side otherwise.

Still nothing, I’m nervous.

Me too. Are they telling us today for sure?

Well I think it is run through mostly volunteer work, so it might run late.

Yeah, that makes sense… hmm… I’m just really impatient at this point. haha.

ahh so happy! i got it! :)

me too! I got it! Notified via email :D

I did too! I was so nervous, I’ve been checking my email every 2 minutes all day…

I got it. It’s more of a “meh” response from me.

i got it too!
yay

I got it too! I’m very happy.

Didn’t get it…but don’t really care lol although, my mom keeps asking me if I got it and I said I didn’t shrugs shoulders

Ouch, didn’t get it. Oh well

Yeah lol oh well. it’s only for $1000 I think?

$1500 for in-state and $2000 for out-of-state I believe.

I didn’t get it, I should have gone to Davis…

I’m sure the original poster has gone on to other things, but for others browsing this topic thread: regarding Berkeley’s Leadership Award, yes, we alumnae willingly volunteer to read through the applications. Each application is read 7 times by a different alum in a different part of the country (Yes - the alumnae send a team around the country with these applications in manilla folders. We give up a Saturday here and there and sit around eating doughnuts and reading your essays. Seriously.)

The Leadership Award is the largest non-academic merit scholarship on campus. Competition is very stiff. Last year we had about 5600 applications for incoming freshman. Of these, approx 2600 were excepted to Berkeley and of those, 250 (again, incoming freshman) received the award. It’s about $2000.

It’s actually quite inspiring to read through the applications that make it to the next round. Of course, the vast majority of essays are obvious cut and pasted from another vaguely related essay. And many applicants haven’t read the directions, don’t answer the questions that were asked, and are a little transparent in their exaggeration of their leadership qualities, but of those who make the grade, it’s a proud moment for us to recognize your work and recommend you for this scholarship.

Have any 2016 applicants heard anything back?
@sammyclaire23 I have. I just got this email:
"Dear Scholar,
Congratulations! Your application has been reviewed and you have been selected to receive The Leadership Award for the 2016-17 school year!
Because your application ranked in our top tier of scores, you have qualified to automatically receive this scholarship without participating in the interview round.
The Leadership Award recognizes and supports Cal student leaders with merit-based scholarships. This scholarship acknowledges you for your outstanding, innovative, and motivational leadership in your academic, work, and/or community environments. With more than 15,000 alumni scholars since its inception, The Leadership Award is the largest non-academic merit scholarship on the UC Berkeley campus and one of the most prestigious. Congratulations!
The Leadership Award is made possible by the generous donations of Cal alumni donors who seek to directly support the leaders of tomorrow by affording them access to UC Berkeley. Alumni donor contributions fund this scholarship to help ensure the opportunity for both an affordable and exceptional education.
To Accept Your Award…"
Awesome. Does anyone know the acceptance rate on this award?
