UC Berkeley Scholarship Invitations

Hi, I had gotten Leadership Awards and Achievement Awards invitations back in Feb. I had not thought about the implications this has on my acceptance chances until now.

So I'm wondering did everyone receive this invitation?

Yeah, I received an invitation and I’m scheduled to have a interview this coming Saturday.

I got both invitations and was recently informed that I’m out of the running for the one we already turned on.

Oops, I meant turned *in!!

I got one too but Berkeley is so competitive, I don’t know if that means anything about my admission chance. The requirement for this scholarship is Minimum 3.3 unweighted GPA so I think a lot of people got this email. I truly wish this email means I have a higher chance than other people to get into Berkeley.

I think everyone got the invitation, the issue is whether or not they called you back for an interview or not.

I got the invitation too but I tried not to assume because if I didn’t get in I would cry lol

I have a 4.0 and I didn’t get the e-mail for this. Is it related to how many ECs you have?

I’m starting to feel like a 4.0 doesn’t stand out at Cal. Maybe it doesn’t - there’s so many of these people applying there

They are giving out only 25 awards so there will be hundreds that get in to UCB but don’t receive the scholarship.

Yes but it doesn’t explain what was lacking in my application that I didn’t get this invite. I’m calling their scholarships office. It sounds like it’s community service based but who knows

@anaval yea you’re correct, just having a 4.0 wont guarantee your acceptance at Cal. You have to have either EC’s, work-life balance, and/or a great hook to get into UC Berkeley. They’re not ALL about academics! I’m definitely not a 4.0 student, but am hoping that my contributions to society and personal statement will give me a chance! Best of luck to everyone applying to Cal! I hope we all get in.

An email for the Leadership Award was sent in February to transfers by mistake. The Alumni Association sent this after.

"Dear Prospective UC Berkeley Student,

We recently invited you to apply for our undergraduate scholarship, The Leadership Award.

Our records indicate that you are a prospective transfer student, which means that while you are still eligible, the application for transfer students does not open until May 1, 2013. We apologize sincerely for having included you in the previous email to prospective freshmen.

Application Period for Transfer Students: May 1, 2013 - June 30, 2013"
